Purpose of the Role
This role is for an Environment and Sustainability Specialist that will be providing advice during development and delivery of projects and supporting the Alliance organisation in achieving internal sustainability goals.
The current vacancy is for an advisor to primarily support the construction phase of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill and Birmingham East Side Projects.
A key feature of the role will be to work with the other disciplines within the Alliance structure including, but not limited to, Delivery teams at WBHE (main site) and other active routes, Engineering, Engagement, Health and Safety, Supply Chain Manager, and Project Teams including Environmental specialists.
Person Specification
- Wide construction industry experience in an environmental / sustainability role with evidence of successful delivery
- Experience of working with Environmental Management Systems
- Industry knowledge in Carbon Management and savings
Desirable
- Transport sector experience
- Light Rail, rail or highway multi-disciplinary delivery experience
- Experienced auditor
Qualifications
- Professional Qualifications in environment / sustainability.
Desirable
- Environmental / Engineering degree (MSc level preferred)
- CEEQUAL Assessor
- Membership of a relevant professional body
- Auditor qualification (ISO 14001 preferred)
Key Responsibilities
- This role is responsible for supporting the Head of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) and Sustainability Manager in achieving the environment and sustainability outcomes for the MMA. Specifically support the Sustainability Manager in:
- Developing and delivering training and development tools to improve the quality of environment and sustainability management
- Collaborating with project teams, ensuring integration of agreed objectives and facilitating cross project learning and knowledge sharing
- Monitoring against objective and KPIs outlined in the Projects Environment and Sustainability Plans
- Reporting internally and externally on environment and sustainability issues
- Support in the implementation of Considerate Contractor Scheme on site.
- Sharing of innovation and good practice across the MMA; this will include presenting at internal lunchtime knowledge sharing sessions and production of internal and external news items.
- Supporting the role of CEEQUAL Assessors in the implementation of CEEQUAL in the projects, working closely with Project Teams. This role may be shared when multiple projects are online at the same time.
- The Environment and Sustainability Advisors will be responsible for producing the Project Environment and Sustainability Plans working with the Project Teams ensuring that environment and sustainability objectives and targets are embedded and integrated.
- Supporting in the development and implementation of the Alliance Environmental Management System. As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
- Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
