MacTaggart Scott primarily supports the Naval Defence industry, providing complete solutions to customer needs from analysis of initial customer requirements, to design and manufacture, and right through to commissioning and through life support. The Role
The quality assurance engineer will report to the quality manager / assistant quality manager and will be responsible for the continuous recording, processing and progression of matters relating to defects, NCR’s and data recording. This includes the identification of root cause, containment, corrective and preventive actions. This role will work closely with the production engineering team and manufacturing areas.
The quality engineer will continually monitor and review the recorded information relating to defects and NCR’s to ensure that trends are identified and addressed, and that contractual document deliverables are met.
The quality engineer will provide regular communication with, input to, advice to the relevant project team personnel to achieve the agreed quality objectives, including the regular reporting of quality risks, issues and performance by reporting to the assistant quality manager / quality manager on progress and issues relating to project quality.
The quality engineer will be required to support audits and projects, when necessary, supplier and customer visits.
Responsibilities
- Be responsible for ensuring defects and NCR’s are progressed in a timely manner.
- Identify and address non-conformance issues in conjunction with the production and production engineering departments.
- Conduct internal auditing.
- Act as customer interface to establish strong working relationships – identifying potential issues, implementing preventative and corrective measures as required.
- Undertake Process Improvement reviews throughout the business.
- Facilitate customer and third-party audits.
- Support project and business Health, Safety and Quality plans and policies through operational implementation. Performs quality audits where required to ensure vendors continue to work in compliance with MTS contractual requirements.
- Train people within the Quality Department where required.
- Operational experience in a manufacturing environment and QA experience is essential.
- Proven experience in a similar role with a thorough working knowledge of ISO9001.
- Good spoken and written communication skills.
- Performance driven with a strong work ethic.
- Work with the Quality Coordinators and Supplier Quality on contract specific issues.

- In-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of manufacturing and engineering.
- ISO 9001 Internal Auditor certification.
- Recognised technical qualification.
- Technical Workshop experience of CNC, Welding, Testing and/or Fitting.
- Previous experience in running NCR systems.
