Business Support Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Croydon Council’s Sustainable Communities, Regeneration & Economic Recovery team as a Business Support Officer.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to support the delivery of vital services within the Employment, Skills & Economic Development and Strategic Transport teams. While your primary focus will be on these areas, flexibility will be essential to provide support across the wider directorate when needed.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Business Support Officer, you will play a crucial role in:

  1. Conducting research, data analysis, and preparing detailed written materials such as member briefings and reports.
  2. Compiling and analysing data for programme and project performance monitoring, providing reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Managing shared mailboxes and responding to enquiries, including tracking and ensuring member requests are addressed within corporate deadlines.
  4. Handling financial matters, including processing claims for external grant funding and maintaining accurate records.
  5. Coordinating and supporting both internal and external meetings and events.

What We’re Looking For:

To succeed in this role, you should:

  1. Demonstrate strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks, manage competing deadlines, and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
  2. Possess experience transforming data into clear, insightful reports.
  3. Be confident in managing diaries, workloads, and identifying solutions to meet tight deadlines.
  4. Exhibit excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) to effectively represent the team and engage with customers and stakeholders.
  5. Have a solid understanding of Croydon’s political and social landscape.
  6. Be confident in customer interactions via email, phone, and face-to-face communications.
  7. Have significant experience in providing administrative and organisational support.
  8. Be proficient in IT systems and financial processes, including raising invoices and purchase orders.
  9. Demonstrate expertise in Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook) and show a willingness to learn internal systems.
  10. Display a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusivity in service delivery.
