These roles will be pivotal in embedding employability within our programmes and delivering high-quality careers support tailored to students\’ specific industry pathways.
Position:
Purpose of the Role
The Careers and Employability Consultants will provide specialist advice and guidance, ensuring that students and graduates acquire essential employability skills, secure meaningful work experiences, and successfully transition into graduate-level employment. You will collaborate closely with academic staff, employers, and external partners to deliver tailored employability programmes and initiatives, enhancing graduate outcomes in your dedicated subject area.
- Deliver tailored careers coaching, employability workshops, and career guidance specific to your specialist area (Creative Industries or Business & Social Sciences).
- Collaborate proactively with academic colleagues to integrate employability into curricula and student learning.
- Design and facilitate impactful careers events, workshops, and resources to improve student employability and graduate outcomes.
- Engage with industry and alumni networks, fostering strategic employer partnerships to enhance student career opportunities.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
Student & Graduate Support
- As a part of a front facing team in an open plan new student Career Studio, provide live, in person careers support to students and graduates.
- Deliver one-to-one and group careers coaching, employability advice, and guidance tailored to your specialist area (Creative Industries or Business/Social Sciences).
- Plan and deliver innovative, sector-specific employability workshops and programmes, integrating these within the curriculum and through extracurricular initiatives.
- Provide regular support to diverse student cohorts, including mature and widening participation students, offering flexible and empathetic guidance.
Employer Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with industry-specific employers and alumni, securing guest speakers, employer-led events, internships, placements, and graduate opportunities, work closely with the employer engagement team to support students with specific opportunities.
- Organise and support careers fairs, networking events, and industry visits aligned with your area.
Curricular & Co-Curricular Development
- Collaborate proactively with academics to embed employability skills into curricula, ensuring alignment with industry trends and employer needs.
- Develop digital and online employability resources, including use of virtual learning platforms (e.g., Abintegro and Handshake).
Service Development & Reporting
- Support the establishment of robust processes, policies, and procedures within the newly formed Careers Studio.
- Regularly monitor, analyse, and report on student engagement and outcomes against institutional employability targets.
- Contribute ideas for innovative service improvements based on sector best practice.
Requirements:
Experience
Essential:
- Experience in careers/employability services, ideally within higher education or 2+ years in house recruitment or learning and development
- Proven experience delivering engaging career development workshops and coaching
Desirable:
- Specialist experience in relevant industry (Creative Industries or Business/Social Sciences)
- Experience working with mature, diverse, or Widening Participation student populations
- Experience developing digital employability resources
Knowledge & Skills
Essential:
- Detailed understanding of graduate labour markets relevant to your specialism
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- Strong IT skills (MS Office, digital platforms, online databases)
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
- Adaptability, flexibility, and capacity to manage ambiguity
- Sensitivity to challenges faced by WP and mature learners
Desirable:
- Knowledge of virtual careers platforms (e.g., Abintegro)
