Job Overview

Turntide are based in the North East of England and is focused on delivering electrification systems – energy storage, power electronics and advanced electric motors – to deliver emissions-free mobility and industrial machines across global markets.

We are currently hiring for a Senior Legal Counsel on a permanent basis.

The preference for the role is to be hybrid at our site in Gateshead, working full-time. However remote working may be considered.

In-house experience is desirable although not essential and applications from lawyers in private practice with no previous in-house experience are welcome.

Turntide requires a qualified solicitor with extensive experience of commercial/corporate legal work who can work unsupervised.

The Senior Legal Counsel role reports into Turntide’s General Counsel and will be involved in a wide range of transactional legal work.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide a wide range of legal and commercial advice and support to Turntide’s UK and global operations and group of companies, especially for customers and suppliers.
2. Draft and negotiate agreements (both legally and commercially) which minimise risks and maximise rights as required, including channel/reseller/distribution agreements; IT contracts; supplier and customer agreements.
3. Advise on other areas of law including dispute resolution (such as drafting settlement agreements), intellectual property portfolio management and some real estate matters.
4. Assist in managing corporate matters when required including M&A and divestiture activities.
5. Consider and manage legal and commercial risk including deciding upon appropriate mitigation strategies and taking into consideration the needs of key stakeholders.
6. Take responsibility for legal work working unsupervised, acting with propriety and integrity in line with the company’s values.
7. Advise upon and provide commercial support for strategic partnerships and expansion of the Turntide business.
8. Manage and supervise the work of a paralegal.
9. Take responsibility for and manage local legal regulatory compliance including data protection/GDPR policies and other internal governance policies.
10. Advise and manage Turntide governance and compliance requirements with UK Companies House and other similar bodies in other jurisdictions, as required.
11. Consult with external counsel as and when approved.
12. Provide employment legal advice and employee relations support to HR.
13. Manage legal requirements for intellectual property registrations on behalf of Turntide Transport including patent registrations and IP strategies.
14. Ensuring the company is up to date with legislative changes which affect the business.

The Requirements

1. Qualified solicitor with significant commercial/corporate experience required – strong drafting skills are essential.
2. All-round excellent lawyer who shows good attitude and willingness to tackle ‘whatever comes across the desk’.
3. Ability to work proactively, unsupervised and always maintain high professional standards.

Qualifications

Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with significant post-qualification commercial/corporate experience.
