Job Description

Our summer internship schemes are for a period of eight to 12 weeks, during which, you will have the opportunity to work within one of our sectors. You’ll be working with graduates, experienced professionals, and other students so a summer placement with us is the perfect opportunity to learn from a variety of people while understanding our values and culture. It’s also a great chance to get involved with real projects while gaining relevant experience. We do not have a formal structure for our internships so you can really make the role your own. The more you get involved and the more questions you ask, the more you will gain from your experience with us.

Mott MacDonald’s water business has successfully secured frameworks with major UK water utility companies and continues to see strong demand for its services both domestically and internationally. As a result, we have an exciting opportunity for a summer placement student to join our Water Division.

In this role, you will be a key part of our multidisciplinary team of technical specialists, delivering projects in close partnership with key clients and contractors. Embedded with our local team of experts and supported by our global practice network, you will be involved in designing innovative and sustainable solutions for challenging and high-profile projects for clients such as key UK water companies, D&B Contractors, and the Environment Agency. If you are interested in water infrastructure, this role will give you the opportunity to contribute to some of the most impactful projects in the industry.

In your day-to-day, your responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Developing conceptual, preliminary, and detailed structural designs
  • Attending site inspections and carrying out investigations
  • Actively participating in project, client and team meetings
  • Reviewing, preparing, and modifying designs
  • Preparing drawings, reports, and specifications
  • Gaining exposure to project, commercial, and client management
  • Actively participating in our Early Careers Professionals Network

Candidate Specification

To join us for a summer placement you must currently be at university and studying one of the following degrees:

  • Civil Engineering
  • General Engineering specialising in civils or structures

We are looking for students with the following characteristics:

  • A methodical approach to problem solving
  • The ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail
