Job Description:

Leading a team focused on support, empathy and delivering high quality housing advice to its student members. Could you be our new Housing Advice Manager?

The housing market in Bristol and the surrounding area is tough for everyone, including students. At Bristol SU we know that housing issues impact students’ ability to reach their potential, so we’re excited to launch a new housing advice service to support our members living in private sector housing. We want to build a service that is approachable, kind and well informed.

We’re looking for someone with the passion to manage a new team at Bristol SU, leading the Student Housing Advice Service to deliver high-quality advice and guidance that support our members during a difficult situation regarding their housing.

The person we are looking for is a skilled advisor and so can lead by example when managing the other advisors in the team. The leader of this team will be an expert in developing high quality services and processes that reach and meet the needs of our students. They will be an empathetic and emotionally intelligent leader who is people oriented and excited to deliver an accessible and impactful service. You will have experience in developing and delivering advice, information and support services, sharp analytical skills, an ability to see the bigger picture and confidence in communicating with a range of people. Ideally, you will have experience of working in the housing market or giving advice. You’ll be able to advise when it comes to finding housing, tenancy agreements, living conditions and tenant conflict. You’ll champion our work and manage the reputation of the service, including how we engage with our students to encourage referrals and access to support. You will have a strong commitment to and experience in the housing sector. You will have a good understanding of the housing issues faced by people in Bristol and have previous working relationships or an awareness of other organisations in this area.

As the service lead, you’ll hold key stakeholder relationships internally, across the university and externally. You’ll lead on delivering presentations on the data that the service collects and where appropriate, advocate for better living conditions for students. The manager will be responsible for monitoring data, outcomes, compliance and service standards to ensure the continual development of the service to deliver high quality advice. You’ll also be experienced when it comes to managing multiple or complex projects involving a range of stakeholders.

You don’t have to have worked in higher education or in a students’ union before. But we are looking for someone who is a natural problem-solver with excellent administration skills to help them adapt to a fast-paced environment. You’ll be passionate about empowering others and giving them the tools to shape their own experiences. You’ll be confident at communicating clearly with varying audiences and using different channels to share information.
