Meteorologist Millennium is looking for an extremely talented Meteorologist to join the team. The successful candidate will combine strong technical skills, insights, and statistical techniques to explore, analyze, and harness a large variety of structured and unstructured datasets in order to build data-centric solutions that give teams an edge in their investment process. The candidate must possess the communication skills needed to explain sophisticated statistical and technical techniques in clear, simple language, as well as to listen and understand problems as explained by investment teams in their vernacular.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Analyze, manage, and store vast amounts of datasets from market to alternative data vendors.
  • Develop high-resolution NWP models such as MPAS and WRF for use across short-term power desks.
  • Interface with the broader quant team on weather-related projects such as demand and wind generation modeling.
  • Communicate and provide data insights to investment teams (portfolio managers and analysts).
  • Write code to tag, clean, and normalize large unstructured and structured datasets.
  • Back test datasets to assess their correlation to company KPIs.
  • Work alongside the data sourcing team to identify new potential data products and vendors.
  • Construct visualization dashboards to present key insights.

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • MS or PhD degree in Meteorology, Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
  • At least 2+ years of working experience with meteorological variables, concepts, data providers, and industry standard practices.
  • At least 2+ years of programming experience in Python.
  • Experience with weather data types such as GRIB, NetCDF, and Zarr.
  • Proficient in writing SQL queries and hands-on experience with ETL processes.
  • Expertise in high-resolution numerical weather prediction modeling and data assimilation; experience with AI/ML techniques is a plus.
  • Excellent communicator.
