Poultry Farm Manager

We’re supporting a family run business based in Southern Scotland (Berwick-upon-Tweed) to recruit a Farms Poultry Manager.

About the Role:

  • Farms Poultry Manager for a family business based in Southern Scotland.
  • The business focus is flock performance and management and therefore always has a focus on stock husbandry, bird health and welfare.
  • To ensure the highest site standards are maintained and that environmental & operational policies are adhered to.
  • To ensure site is always audit ready and comply with all industry standards for example, BEIC Lion Egg and RSPCA standards.
  • As a forward-thinking business, we are seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable manager to take a hands-on role in the day to day running of the business.
  • You will have responsibility to deliver the production of profitable egg to meet the commercial needs of the business through effective management of all production units and assume leadership of the farm team responsible for all units.
  • As an innovative and creative thinker, you will be fully engaged in pushing for excellence and efficiency, ensuring the business takes a leading position on productivity, industry standards and challenges.

As Farm Manager your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the recruitment and retention of the farm’s team to meet the business needs.
  • Responsible for, and autonomy of, the staff rota, holidays, weekend cover.
  • Managing flocks from flock housing, depopulation and unit turn around.
  • Manage daily egg collection from our poultry houses and the welfare of hens.
  • Accurately manage flock records and ensure timely corrective actions as required.
  • Analyse and report on welfare statistics, egg production and feed data.
  • Developing practices and processes to ensure the business operates efficiently.
  • Ensure environmental targets are met as set out in the company’s PPC permit.
  • Ensure maintenance of poultry houses and field range security.
  • Manage site audits as they occur ensuring conformance to various standards.
  • Identify underperformance and develop clear mitigation plans to ensure our standards and expectations are met.
  • Manage external relationships with breed and feed representatives along with relevant auditing bodies.
  • Develop a clear training plan for all farm team members to Lion code passport requirements as a minimum.
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver a set of Agriculture Key performance Indicators that bring transparency to the performance and efficiency of the business and provide that report to the business owners weekly and at month end.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Significant experience working with poultry, ideally in a laying unit, this is a hands-on role.
  • Commercially astute and keeps up to date with all internal and external activities which may influence the business.
  • Strong engineering knowledge.
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards for Lion Code v8 and RSPCA code of practice for laying hens.
  • Health and safety knowledge.
  • Food hygiene trained.
  • An excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing.
  • Creative thinker who can challenge the status quo and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
