Are you an experienced Senior Database Engineer?

Do you have strong DBA skills across Oracle and SQL Server?

This is initially a 12 month contract, daily rate is up to £589 (Inside IR35). You can be based anywhere in the UK as this is a remote contract; however, you need to be open to an occasional visit to Glasgow / Newcastle.

Please only apply for this role if you have the ‘right to work’ in the UK with no Visa restrictions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide database support & maintenance of many critical production services, which spans across multiple database technologies (predominately Oracle & SQL Server).
  • Provide database administrative support and guidance in the shape of:

Back-up and Recovery

Monitoring and Alerting

Change and Incident Management

Troubleshooting and Problem Solving

Tuning and Optimisation

Disaster Recovery

  • Improving our processes through process automation, innovation and continuous improvement.

Required experience:

  • A strong understanding and experience of database administration (across Oracle and SQL Server) in a Production setting.
  • An ability to troubleshoot Production issues in an analytical manner and make recommendations to resolve issues and/or deliver enhancements.
  • Experience of undertaking database builds, patching, migrations and upgrades.
  • Experience of High Availability and Disaster Recovery Methods including setup, troubleshooting and support – Oracle RAC, Oracle Restart, ASM, Oracle Data Guard & SQL Server Always on High Availability.
  • Database Performance Tuning and Optimisation skills.
  • Experience of using Oracle Enterprise Manager.
  • Oracle / Red Hat Linux, Windows, AIX, and Solaris Operating System experience.

Advantageous to have:

  • Cloud experience (Oracle OCI, Oracle Exadata Cloud @ Customer and/or Microsoft Azure) with an awareness of emerging industry trends such as PAAS, DBAS, IAAS.
  • Awareness of Flashback technologies.
  • Experience of Dynatrace tooling.
  • Awareness of Windows Failover Clustering.
  • Previous experience of working with other database technologies aside from Oracle and SQL Server.
