The Role

This role is responsible for overseeing the operation and optimization of Building Management Systems (BMS) across a managed portfolio, ensuring efficient performance, compliance with regulations, and alignment with sustainability objectives.

The BMS Engineer plays a critical role in managing energy consumption, maintaining optimal environmental conditions, and enhancing overall building performance. This position also contributes significantly to the organization's Net Zero Carbon journey, focusing on efficiency and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the performance of building management systems and energy management systems (Open Blue), ensuring smooth operation of HVAC, lighting, security, and other integrated systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections and diagnostics to identify and resolve any system issues promptly.
  • Analyze system data to identify opportunities for optimization and energy efficiency improvements.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance system performance, reduce energy consumption, and lower operating costs.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and best practices to continuously improve building management technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and local building codes.
  • Coordinate the integration of new technologies and system upgrades into existing infrastructures.
  • Evaluate potential system upgrades or replacements based on cost-benefit analysis, performance, and energy efficiency considerations.
  • Provide technical support to Building and Portfolio Management teams.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and Net Zero Carbon objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations, including managing the Data Protection Impact Assessment register.
  • Identify buildings requiring BMS upgrades and act as a project manager for system enhancements, working closely with Portfolio and Asset Managers.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in building management systems (Trend, Schneider, Honeywell).
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, lighting, fire & life safety, security, and energy management systems.
  • Familiarity with remote desktop applications and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and identify actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes, regulations, and standards governing building management systems.
  • Project management experience with budget control is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of net zero carbon initiatives and energy-saving technologies is highly desirable.
