About the business unit
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues – such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation – to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.
About the role
Our Human Factors team which includes qualified ergonomists, applied psychologists and safety/risk engineers, is a Registered Consultancy of the UK Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors (CIEHF).
Our staff have experience in working within multidisciplinary project teams and taking a pragmatic approach to ensure project ideas are turned into reality. Team members have expertise in applying ergonomics/human factors techniques, undertaking safety risk assessments, managing human factors programmes and conducting training and research. Our team provides services including:
• Control room design
• HMI design
• Workload assessment
• Human error assessment
• Human reliability assessment
• Wayfinding
• Accessibility/inclusive design
• Behavioural insights
• Human factors integration
Our human factors team is growing, and we are looking for a Human Factors Engineer to join our team. We have offices throughout the UK and Northern Ireland and can be flexible with the location of this position. We are also able to consider candidates who are looking for a full-time or part-time role. Due to the nature of our work, the role will require some travel, occasional overnight stays and potential secondment.
The human factors team are involved in a variety of exciting projects ranging from integrating human factors in flagship buildings and infrastructure design to providing behavioural insights for bespoke projects. Our team include qualified ergonomists and applied psychologists and is a Registered consultancy of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors. We are looking for a new team member to help us deliver pragmatic human factors insights on a range of UK and international projects.
You will be involved in various human factors assessments, and your responsibilities will include:
• Leading human factors elements of work on multidisciplinary engineering projects
• Writing and providing reports on work you’ve conducted
• Initiating and supporting bid activities
• Guiding and nurturing early career professionals within the team as well as supervising their work
• Managing discipline specific projects
• Promoting the human factors team and capabilities
Candidate specification
As an experienced human factors or ergonomics professional within a consultancy environment, you’re comfortable working independently and making commercial choices to meet client needs. It would be preferable if you have experience working in the rail or transport industry due to the nature of our work however this is not essential. Additionally, you are able to work within a team, ensuring communication is maintained to deliver to deadlines.
You will also be able to demonstrate the following:
• An undergraduate degree in Psychology (or equivalent)
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary consultancy
• Ability to liaise with external clients and colleagues
• Good report writing skills
Although not essential, if you are chartered with a relevant professional institution or working towards your chartership this would be advantageous as would any experience supporting, developing and leading a team. Additionally, any experience in accessibility/inclusive design holding current or previous security clearance.
