Aufgaben
- To manage a design team promoting a streamlined, efficient design process that delivers safe, practical and economic designs for clients to a high standard of professional competence and in compliance with Regulations and Company procedures.
- Develop and implement overall design processes with regards to delivery, review, assurance, progress measurement and document control.
- Oversee the development of the design proposals and ensure alignment with project’s requirements, budget and timeline.
- Manage design programme.
- Manage changes to design scope and assess impact to cost and programme.
- Create and maintain a register of required design deliverables.
- Report on design progress and prepare associated narratives and required reports for cost control.
- Manage the interface with external and/or in-house design teams.
- Represent the design department, when necessary, at internal and external meetings.
- Liaise with construction teams to determine constructability constraints and ensure design is suitable for selected construction methodologies.
- Liaise with other departments, such as Environmental, Consents, Planning and Quality to assess completeness of design against requirements.
- Ensure a consistent general approach throughout the design team.
- Provide training and support to the entire design team to work to the implemented processes.
- Identify opportunities to increase the efficiency of processes applying the principles of continuous improvement.
- Seek the implementation of innovative tools and techniques to streamline design processes.
- Ensure feedback on design work is collated, saved, reviewed and acted upon in accordance with procedures.
- Maintain responsibility for the storage, filing and archiving of relevant design documents.
- Ensure that the work in the department is carried out in accordance with Company procedures and that a high level of professionalism is maintained.
- Ensure designs comply with building codes, safety standards, and local regulations.
- Prepare conceptual designs with a view to the preparation of safe, practical and economic designs in accordance with current legislation.
- Manage design interfaces with Local authorities and other regulatory bodies.
- Ensure design approvals are obtained from the Client and other relevant authorities at appropriate project milestones.
- Organise collaborative design reviews, as appropriate, and ensure key personnel are involved.
- Foster health and safety through design.
- Ensure adequate risk management processes are applied and comply with The CCDM regulations (CDM2015).
- Lead risk reviews such as HAZOPs, HAZCONs and HAZCOMMs.
- Manage design integration, between different disciplines and between temporary and permanent works designs.
- Ensure effective communication amongst the design team and encourage cooperation.
- Promote Value Engineering opportunities.
- Manage design changes during construction, minimizing cost and programme impact.
- Identify appropriate documentation/information to be included in the Health and safety file.
- Prepare work forecasts.
- Demonstrate leadership and foster a collaborative spirit, resolving conflicts promptly.
Qualifikationen
- Degree or higher level in Engineering.
- Member of CIOB / ICE desirable.
- Chartered member of the ICE National Water Hygiene EUSR Registration.
- CSCS Card (relevant type).
- Construction Experience – 5 years (degree), 10 years (HND/HNC).
- At least 5 years in design co-ordination role required.
- Experience in ground engineering, tunnels and shaft construction and/or experience in the water industry.
- Management skills and confident when dealing with staff, clients, figures, design issues and programmes.
- Scripting and automation experience; experience with Power BI.
- Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft packages, including Microsoft Project.
