Overview of the role:
Reporting into the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will join a highly focussed and passionate team leading the delivery of electrical / electronic engineering across the business.
The role is within the Group Electrical & Controls team which has responsibility to ensure that all new JCB Product programmes and Current Product Maintenance meet the required technical deliverables against required timing. The role requires technical knowledge, hands-on experience, project delivery process understanding, and the ability to work with diverse teams to ensure delivery.
Your Responsibilities:
- Electrical & Electronic support for our current product maintenance team
- Investigation into electrical warranty claims and customer feedback
- Translate the ‘voice of the customer’ (internal and external) into a list of clear concise requirements and deliverables.
- Root Cause analysis via 8D, Ishikawa/fishbone
- Hands on investigation at machine level
- Devising a solution and implementation through to production
- Selection of correct hardware platform(s) to deliver the technical solution, considering environmental and cost targets.
- Developing prototype solutions to validate proof of concept ideas
- Co-ordination of 3rd party support vendors with the creation of software requirements.
- Ensuring robust and reliable ECU communication protocols are followed in line with industry best practice (SAE J1939, Ethernet)
- Design vehicle electrical wiring systems where necessary, passing onto the EDS team for implementation.
- Have a keen interest in monitoring the health and status of the system, via on board diagnostic protocols or over the air communications
- Work inline with industry standard development techniques ie V Model
- Drive re-use of components and approaches
- On Machine Validation and Verification testing.
About you:
- Experience and understanding of hydraulic and electrical system interaction.
- PLC panel design and ladder logic experience is comparable to this industry.
- Familiar with different requirements capturing tools ie IBM DOORS.
- Knowledge of different CAN bus protocols ie CANOpen, J1939, ISO14229, ISO14230
- Working knowledge of the engineering lifecycle V Model, specifically electrical systems.
- Awareness of security impact to achieve secure and resilient systems (hardware and software)
- Experience in the completion of different V&V techniques.
- Functional test, fault insertion testing – on machine and or test rigs
- Comfortable working with various electronic lab tools ie Spectrum analyser, Oscilloscope, Signal Generators, DC power supplies, Digital Volt Meters
- An ability to read and digest complex information relating to internal and external procedures and sign-off requirements
- Sound record keeping techniques, of all designs, revisions and related updates.
- Qualified to HNC/HND level in an electronic/software based technology discipline or equivalent experience.
