A world-leading, multidisciplinary engineering and design consultancy is looking for an individual with extensive experience in the ecology field to take on the role of Principal Ecologist, in a hybrid role based in Exeter, also covering Wales and the Southwest.

Responsibilities as Principal Ecologist:

As Principal Ecologist for this world-leading multidisciplinary consultancy, whilst working with diverse teams and stakeholders, you would oversee and coordinate infrastructure projects and project management across the Southwest and Wales. The Principal Ecologist will use their extensive experience to plan and conduct field surveys, analyse survey data using methods like biodiversity net gain (BNG) and natural capital, and coordinate ecological mitigation efforts. They will write and review ecological reports and licence applications and provide guidance and support to other team members.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BSc/MSc in ecology or similar relevant field (essential)
  • Strong background in botany (FISC level 4 is desirable)
  • Protected species survey licence(s) e.g., Bat licence (desirable)
