The Person
We are looking for a Control Systems Engineer to join our team in Nuneaton. You will have a technical engineering qualification or relevant work experience.

Our site in Nuneaton is expanding and we have this great opportunity for an Automation Engineer to join our team. Your role will be to diagnose complex technical issues on systems in our Snacktory.

The Role Responsibilities
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Control Systems Engineer with expertise in operations support and preventative maintenance to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience working with Siemens, Omron, and Allen-Bradley PLC systems. This role is crucial in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and optimization of our manufacturing processes through effective control systems management.

  • Subject matter expert:
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for control systems and automation issues to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure seamless operations and resolve equipment challenges promptly.
  • Monitor control systems for performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
  • Preventative Maintenance:
  • Develop and execute preventative maintenance schedules for PLCs, HMIs, and associated automation hardware.
  • Conduct regular system health checks, backups, and updates to ensure long-term reliability.
  • Implement predictive maintenance strategies using data-driven insights to reduce unexpected failures.
  • PLC Programming and Configuration:
  • Maintain, modify, and optimize PLC programs for Siemens, Omron, and Allen-Bradley systems to meet production requirements.
  • Design and integrate new control system solutions to improve process efficiency and flexibility.
  • System Upgrades and Improvements:
  • Lead the implementation of upgrades or expansions to control systems in line with evolving operational needs.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies to enhance system capabilities and plant productivity.
  • Compliance and Documentation:
  • Ensure all control systems adhere to relevant safety standards and regulations.
  • Maintain detailed documentation, including electrical schematics, software backups, and maintenance records.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Automation, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment with a focus on control systems engineering.
  • Proficiency in Siemens, Omron, and Allen-Bradley PLCs, including programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of industrial networks and protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, Modbus).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with SCADA systems and HMI development.
  • Familiarity with robotics, motion control, and advanced automation technologies.
  • Knowledge of safety systems and standards (e.g., SIL, ISO 13849).
  • Certification or training in specific PLC platforms is a plus.
