DSD Construction is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Contracts Manager who is based in Cumbria.

A contracts manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects relating to construction projects and ensuring that any issues which arise are resolved as quickly and effectively as possible. Further responsibilities of the Contracts Manager include:

  • Financial monitoring and control of the contracts.
  • Ensuring Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality compliance is maintained.
  • Achieving the Company’s procedures and objectives.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Planning projects and ensuring they are programmed to a level of detail necessary to deliver the scheme without delays.
  • Ensuring procurement and reconciliation of materials to best value and to prevent delays.
  • Ensuring site team compliance with Company commercial policies and procedures.
  • Attending tender handover meetings and delivering pre-start meetings to the site team.
  • Assisting the Quantity Surveyor to ensure a commercial plan and end of life forecast is in place.
  • Monitoring monthly for the successful commercial delivery of the project.
  • Assisting the Quantity Surveyor to ensure correct commercial engagement of subcontractors.
  • Implementing the risk management process, reviewing the risk register, and checking risk controls.
  • Reviewing the CVRs monthly with the project teams and implementing necessary actions.
  • Distributing the Contract Initiation/Completion form for each project.
  • Ensuring weekly review of progress, budget resources, forward planning, and lookahead programmes are in place.
  • Attending/chairing internal and external meetings to ensure the production of accurate records of any discussions and action.
  • Ensuring timely management of both temporary and permanent design to meet the requirements of each project.
  • Setting the highest possible standards of leadership in the promotion of HS&E procedures and best practice.
  • Allocating HS&E responsibilities and duties for site personnel, checking understanding and providing training as necessary.
  • Maintaining and managing construction sites and subcontractors, ensuring all procedures and processes are followed.
  • Overseeing and ensuring that HSE-related documents are kept up to date and undertaking senior manager site inspections.
  • Liaising with third parties to ensure compliance with HAUC, NRSWA, Chapter 8 and other required regulatory standards.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with both the Client/Customers.
  • Chairing and leading meetings with the clients and reporting on progress to date.
  • Ensuring that works are carried out in a manner which minimises community impact.
  • Assisting with the preparation of tenders for Clients and commercial bids to help bring in new business.

Knowledge, Education & Skills:

  • An understanding of the construction industry and contractual documentation.
  • Strong leadership skills and business management skills with the ability to use initiative.
  • Extensive experience of managing projects within a resurfacing environment.
  • Working knowledge of contract conditions, CDM regulations, design management, programme and risk management.
  • Knowledge of cost control including forecasting, actual cost and value reporting.
  • Experience of Microsoft Project and appropriate IT knowledge.
  • Knowledge of the NEC contract including the Early Warning and Compensation Event mechanisms.
  • Diploma in Asphalt Technology and Pavement Design.
  • Experience of Pre-Qualification and Tendering process for a number of multi-discipline projects.
  • Excellent people management skills with the ability to influence and mentor.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with both customers and all levels of staff.

  • SMSTS
  • CSCS to required level
  • NVQ Road Building and Maintenance
  • City & Guilds in Pavement Design
