Job title: Principal Mechanical Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Brough, Broad Oak, Portsmouth, Coventry, Filton and Bristol. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this role.

Salary: Up to £57,500 dependent on experience

What you’ll be doing:

As the Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the development of the Propulsion Systems through its Engineering Delivery Framework (EDF) stages 0-3 over the next 2 years. The programme will be focusing on the development of Tools, Processes & Technologies. There will be a strong focus on the development of more effective System Engineering practices through Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and the embodiment of key business toolsets associated with the NextGen Digital Framework. You will also be responsible for delivering the Primary Propulsion Package to the Programme which will comprise of a Raft Mounted Diesel Engine & Motor Generator Unit Transmission, Diesel Exhaust System, Shaftline and External Thrusters. The Motor Generator will have shared responsibility with the Electrical Engineering team and the system will need to be developed to DNV regulations.

Your skills and experiences:

  1. Experience with Diesel / Electric engines e.g. Surface Ships (Defence and/or Commercial)
  2. Knowledge of DNV (Det Norske Veritas) – Classification of safety and condition of Ships
  3. Understanding / Background of working with requirements and processes
  4. Strong Mechanical Engineering background
  5. Educated to degree level in a STEM subject (preferably Mechanical) or equivalent experience
