The Bank is investing in building an experienced design and engineering team who will be responsible for building and operating the renewed RTGS service. A skilled and talented multi-disciplinary development team will be a key component of this service!

You will form a central role as part of the RTGS Technology team that provides day-to-day support and development of new capabilities for the RTGS solution.

Reporting to a RTGS Technology Team Lead, you will be responsible for delivery, support, maintenance and operation of the internal and external API components for the RTGS solution.

You will provide guidance to the team based on your existing working knowledge of API capabilities and associated processes.

You will be working as part of a support rota that provides cover for the operational hours of the RTGS solution, standby emergency cover and occasional weekend working for major releases that cannot be accommodated in the normal working hours.

The candidate will also be expected to:

  • Deliver high quality software components and documentation which conform to guidelines and standards.
  • Evaluate business requirements and produce estimates, solutions and functional specifications.
  • Share knowledge, contribute to technical discussions and assist other team members when necessary.
  • Use their technical and business experience to support the Bank’s Live and other environments.
  • Have a high level of professionalism, organisation, self-motivation and a desire for self-improvement.
  • Have good interpersonal communication skills with an ability to interpret and present information to a variety of recipients using suitable modes of communication.
  • Experience working with Product Owners, customers, end-users, other partners in the delivery of software, solutions, or products.

Role Requirements

  • Demonstrable hands-on engineering experience of API Gateways at an enterprise scale, in particular Apigee.
  • Good awareness of SWIFT products and how they can work with APIs.
  • Practical experience in payment services security, access and authentication.
  • Proficiency in API documentation tools (e.g., Swagger/OpenAPI).
  • Experience with databases (e.g., SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, nonSQL).
  • Experience working in Agile environments.
  • Experience with automated build and deployment, test driven development, continuous integration, and release management tooling.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software or Electronic Engineering or other related field.
  • Working understanding of DevOps and Automation Tools e.g. Jenkins, Ansible, Jira/Confluence, Git, CMDB, Splunk, CtrlM, Docker, Terraform, Bash scripting.
  • Working knowledge of User interface technologies (React, Node.js etc.).
  • Knowledge of OpenShift and RedHat Enterprise Linux.
  • Knowledge of the modern Java and Linux development frameworks and tool stack (e.g. Micro-Services with Java, Spring/Hibernate, Oracle).
  • Scripting/procedural coding and management of configuration files.
  • An understanding of networks, network storage, network components and TCP/IP.
  • A good knowledge of security principles such as public/private key architecture and encryption.
  • Transfer protocols such as FTP, SFTP and SSH.

Salary and Benefits Information

We encourage flexible working, part time working and job share arrangements. Part time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate.

  • A non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/95th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/50th) or decrease (to 1/120th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year.
  • A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool.
  • A 8% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits.
  • 26 days’ annual leave with option to buy up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits.
  • Private medical insurance and income protection.

National Security Vetting Process

Employment in this role will be subject to the National Security Vetting clearance process (and typically can take between 6 to 12 weeks post offer) and the passing of additional Bank security checks in accordance with the Bank policy.
