In this role, you will own and drive Cegal’s Data Management product portfolio. This includes leading products such as Blueback Project Tracker—widely recognized as the industry standard for Petrel data management—and the Cegal Data Program, a hybrid solution that blends our proprietary technology with expert-led services to guide customers worldwide on their digital transformation journeys.
You’ll bridge the gap between technical teams and business needs, ensuring that development aligns with customer requirements and industry advancements. You’ll refine client needs into actionable user stories, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and oversee the product backlog to drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:
The Product Owner is responsible for the day-to-day execution of the product strategy, focusing on the development team and ensuring that the product backlog is well-defined, prioritized, and aligned with the Product Manager’s strategy.
- Record and refine client requirements, converting them into clear user stories (with acceptance criteria) for the engineering team.
- Create specifications, mockups, and functionality documentation to guide development.
- Work closely with the Product Manager, Domain Experts, Support, Tech-Sales, QA, Developers, and (if applicable) UX/UI designers to ensure a user-focused approach and consistent design across product features.
- Dynamically maintain and prioritize product feature backlogs, ensuring alignment with business goals and success metrics (e.g., adoption, usage, performance).
- Provide second/third-line software support and assist testers in creating test data, test plans, and test cases to validate new functionality.
- Perform acceptance testing of new features to confirm they meet requirements and quality standards.
- Maintain and update user and technical documentation for software releases.
- Collaborate with the Product Manager to define, track, and analyze key product metrics; use insights to inform backlog priorities and product roadmap decisions.
Who you are?
- 3–5 years as a Product Owner (or similar role): Demonstrated experience managing product and feature backlogs, writing user stories with clear acceptance criteria, and coordinating release planning.
- Understanding of subsurface data, applications, and Geoscience (helpful but not essential).
- Proven experience working in an Agile framework (Scrum or Kanban), including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospective meetings.
- Proficiency with DevOps tools (Azure DevOps or similar) for managing code repositories, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing processes.
- Experience defining and tracking key product metrics (e.g., adoption, usage, performance) to inform product decisions.
- Experience creating and maintaining user and technical documentation, as well as delivering timely progress reports to stakeholders.
Education, skills and competencies:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geoscience, Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field (experience in geoscience data management workflows is highly beneficial).
- Strong ability to translate user needs into actionable software features, with an emphasis on subsurface data management (if applicable).
- Excellent English (verbal and written) skills to clearly convey complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated aptitude for identifying issues, developing solutions, and making data-driven decisions.
- Demonstrated skill in effectively managing competing priorities while proactively guiding the product vision forward.
- Demonstrates strong skills in creating, maintaining, and prioritizing product backlogs to align with strategic objectives.
- Adept at translating customer or business needs into clear, actionable user stories with defined acceptance criteria.
- Proven ability to collaborate on high-level product roadmaps and ensure timely feature releases.
