Role: Senior or Principal Consultant – LCA / Embodied Carbon

Role Overview:
The role will mainly focus on providing consultancy services relating to Life Cycle Assessment (Embodied Carbon) and Circular Economy Strategies. Projects will include new builds, refurbishments, and fit-outs. As part of your role, you will be leading the delivery of projects and helping to train and upskill the team in LCA and circular economy strategies and assessment techniques.
Responsibilities – Technical:
The successful candidate is expected to have sufficient knowledge and project experience of LCA and Circular Economy Strategies for new and refurbished buildings. Technical responsibilities will include the following:
- Calculation of embodied carbon and whole life carbon using OneClick LCA and other bespoke tools.
- Development of Circular Economy strategies.
- Provide advice to project teams and run workshops to explore opportunities to reduce embodied carbon and material use.
- Reporting in line with BREEAM and GLA reporting guidance for LCA and Circular Economy.
- Maintain knowledge of low carbon technologies and design strategies with a particular focus on (net) zero carbon.
- Oversight of LCA assessments and circular economy work undertaken by more junior members of staff including developing and adopting robust QA procedures, QA of project models and studies.
- Develop technical reports and produce calculations in line with project needs.
- Ensure continuous improvement and application of the latest thinking and innovations relating to sustainable design and operation of buildings.
- Development of standards and assessment procedures.
Responsibilities – General:
Agree level of service and project outputs with your line manager for each project, including understanding the scope, time scales, and target profitability of each project.
- Attend project meetings as required and present findings/progress reports.
- Oversight of projects including resourcing, project delivery, project team, client communications, and project budget.
- Develop project proposals and attend project interviews and presentations as required.
- Report on costs and progress.
- Support, assist, and deputise to other members workload and/or circumstances require.
- Manage and mentor more junior members of staff and ensure that sustainability ethos is maintained across the team.
- Maintain excellent client and team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities where appropriate with existing and new clients.
- Champion sustainability on behalf of the company through active participation in relevant industry groups, development and/or coordination of thought pieces and presentations to the wider industry.
Qualifications/Experience/Skills:
The individual undertaking this role is expected to have the following skills:
- Have a relevant science or engineering degree.
- At least 4-6 years\’ experience in a related role.
- Working knowledge and experience of BREEAM and GLA reporting requirements for Embodied Carbon and Circular Economy Statements.
- Good understanding of the policy and regulatory landscape relating to sustainable building and building energy in the UK.
- In-depth knowledge of subject matter framework and guidance like RICS methodology, LETI guidance, UKGBC related guidance and UK Pilot NZC Building Standard.
- Good experience of front line (face-to-face) delivery to customers.
- Clear communicator – comfortable with presenting to an audience (both written and verbally) on both technical and non-technical matters.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines, independently and as a team member or leader.
- Good experience of analysing complex data.
- Highly motivated, customer-focused and willing to take on new challenges.
- Ability to prepare and deliver compelling proposals in writing and in interview situations.
- Ability to contribute to team working and collective objectives.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications:
Formal One Click LCA qualifications.
Employment Basis:
Hybrid working policy – allowing staff to work from home up to 3 days a week (subject to meeting client and project needs).
