OUR ENERGY STRATEGY WORK
We are partnering with local authorities and other stakeholders in the delivery of complex energy planning commissions across England, Wales, and Scotland, which includes:
- Local Area Energy Plans (LAEP)
- Local Heat & Energy Efficiency Strategies (LHEES)
- District Heat Networks
- Renewable & Low Carbon Energy Assessments
Location : Remote first, flexible working arrangements, with all UK-based locations considered.
Term : Permanent, Full Time. Reduced hours may be considered, please state in your application.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Principal Energy Consultant with specialist experience in energy system modelling, ideally whole system modelling for projects such as Local Area Energy Plans (LAEPs) and/or DFES.
The ideal candidate will possess deep energy systems expertise combined with high-level modelling skills and proficiency across various modelling languages and platforms (e.g., Excel, Python). You will lead a team of modellers to deliver high-quality outputs on time and on budget.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Project management (delivering projects in the relevant technical area to high quality standards, on time and within budget)
- Ownership of projects from end to end: developing customer requirements, developing and agreeing costed research plans, ensuring data acquisition, investigating raw data, delivering robust analysis, building tests and completing reports.
- Strategic direction on modelling methodologies, including embedding industry-wide best practices
- Producing high-quality technical reports and presentations
- Conducting advanced data analysis
- Supporting the growth of our energy and net zero client offering and portfolio of projects
Minimum requirements include:
- At least 5 years of experience in a consultancy environment, with experience in developing complex energy system models
- Proven track record in managing and directing successful delivery of complex energy projects as Project Manager or Technical Lead
- Deep technical knowledge and understanding across energy systems
- Ability to lead independently and effectively delegate to remote teams
- Ability to communicate modelling outputs to a range of stakeholders
- 1st class degree in a technical or scientific field
- Experience with Local Area Energy Planning (LAEP)
- Experience with Local Heat & Energy Efficiency Strategies (LHEES)
- Experience with District Heat Networks
- Advanced Python and GIS skills
- Experience in software version control, Git
- Experience with database management and languages (SQL)
- Masters or PhD in a highly technical field
