Project Director – Data Centres
Position Overview:
The Project Director will oversee the entire lifecycle of data centre construction projects, from design and planning to execution and final handover. This role requires a strategic leader with in-depth knowledge of data centre operations, project management methodologies, and a proven track record of delivering large-scale projects on time, within scope, and with quality standards met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Strategy: Lead and direct all aspects of data centre projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives, timelines, and quality standards.
- Project Planning & Execution: Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including scope, schedules, and resource allocation. Oversee the execution of projects to ensure they meet agreed deliverables.
- Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders. Build and maintain strong relationships to ensure collaboration and project success.
- Team Management: Lead and manage cross-functional teams, ensuring clear communication, motivation, and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
- Risk & Issue Management: Identify potential risks, develop mitigation plans, and address issues proactively to avoid delays or disruptions to the project.
- Budget & Resource Management: Oversee project budgets and ensure effective use of resources. Ensure that projects stay within budget and provide regular updates to leadership on financial performance.
- Quality & Compliance: Ensure all work is completed in compliance with industry standards, building codes, and safety regulations. Uphold the highest standards of quality control across all phases of the project.
- Reporting & Documentation: Provide regular status reports to senior management, clients, and stakeholders, documenting key milestones, issues, and resolutions.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience (10+ years) in managing large-scale data centre construction projects or similar technical infrastructure projects.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in a leadership or director-level project management role.
- Strong knowledge of data centre design, construction, and operational requirements (including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, security, and network systems).
- Expertise in project management methodologies (PMI, Agile, etc.) and project management software (MS Project, Primavera, etc.).
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and deliver projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of budget management, scheduling, and risk mitigation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- PMP or similar project management certification is preferred.
