Automation Systems Test Engineer

Rate: £26.65 per hour (Umbrella)
Role Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Automation Systems Test Engineer to support the development and daily operation of world-class test bed automation systems within a powertrain test facility. This role specifically focuses on supporting EDU and E-Machine test rig automation systems .
The successful Automation Systems Test Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining automation systems to ensure the timely and high-quality delivery of test data. Working closely with engineering teams, you will provide the necessary automation functionality to meet programme timing plans. Additionally, the role involves integrating associated systems and hardware for testing programmes, as well as troubleshooting and resolving day-to-day automation system issues raised by operations teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and support automation systems for EDU and E-Machine test rigs .
- Ensure test automation systems deliver accurate and high-quality data to meet programme requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to provide necessary automation functionality.
- Integrate additional test bed instrumentation, hardware, and associated systems as required.
- Troubleshoot and resolve automation system issues to support uninterrupted operations.
- Ensure compliance with testing and quality standards.
Skills Required:
- Experience in the application and development of physical test automation systems in complex environments.
- Strong programming and scripting skills in a controls-based environment (e.g., C#, Python ).
Experience Required:
- Degree qualified in Engineering (Automotive, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Control Systems Engineering).
- Experience with Morphee automation system or other test automation platforms (e.g., PUMA, STARS, dSPACE ).
- Knowledge of test bed instrumentation and systems (e.g., INCA, Cameo, emissions systems ).
- Familiarity with automotive networks (e.g., CAN, EtherCAT ).
- Understanding of test facility mechanical and electrical hardware .
Experience Preferred:
- Experience in automation system development/control systems .
- Automotive industry experience (preferred but not essential).
- Knowledge of powertrain electrification systems (beneficial but not required).
