Job Description

A decent annual bonus, up to 31 days holiday (plus bank), private health, enhanced parental leave, phones, laptops, Car Allowances blah blah… not the reasons anyone works here.

You’d be working for the kind of business that doesn’t wait for someone to retire to promote you. So there’s easy progression from Chartered to Associate. They’ll match the job title, and salary with your ability for as long as you work here, without you asking for it.

If you’re a Senior and you’re trying to find the time and motivation to get chartered, you’ll be pleased to know that this applies to you too. There’s a strong culture of development and progression. They’ll help you find the time to do the chartership, often at work to tie in with or replace the serious amount of CPD they run.

If you were working for this business of 50, that isn’t full at the top “The intention would always be for progression” one of the bosses told me.

Two or three days working from home is the norm here, but there are no mandatory days in the office. “If you’ve got an issue trusting people then the issue is with the employer not the staff”. That’s why they let you run your own WFH schedule and offer you heaps of flexibility.

You’ll get out and about of course, but you’ll never be sent off to Aberdeen or Portsmouth for a little survey. It’ll be mostly very local.

You’ll never be ‘clock watched’. You can pick the kids up from school and it won’t be noticed. In fact that kind of thing is expected.

You won’t find any problem if you want to nip off early for parents evening or to go to the match, or do something else to look after yourself or your family.

In fact the management have got a really light touch in general. A trainee could sit down with the CEO and not feel uncomfortable talking about Fortnight (or whatever it is the kids are into). You’d also be constantly asked “What else do you need? What other benefits do you think we should have?”

The bosses look inwardly when a mistake happens or a problem occurs. They don’t play the blame game. They’d rather drop a problem client than make you uncomfortable at work dealing with them, and they have done that recently.

There is an intention to help you do what interests you work wise here. For the most part you could be working on Social Housing, Industrial or Commercial projects. But there is the odd fancy hotel, racecourse or bit of retail thrown in too.

What you’ll need:

To be an experienced Chartered or Senior / near Chartered Building Surveyor.

To have a Driving license.

You’ve got to like dogs (People bring theirs in to work).
