We’re on the lookout for a passionate Junior Cloud Operations Engineer to join our innovative team in Reading! This is your chance to dive into the world of cloud infrastructure, with a focus on AWS and Azure platforms, and kickstart your career in cloud operations.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with senior Site Reliability Engineers, DevOps experts, and Software Engineering teams to ensure our cloud-based systems are rock-solid, highly scalable, and running at peak performance. You’ll be at the forefront of automating deployments, monitoring mission-critical services, tackling incidents head-on, and implementing best practices that minimize downtime and elevate the end-user experience.

This position is designed to fuel your hands-on growth, giving you the chance to master cloud architectures, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipelines, observability tools, and incident management processes — all while working in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment. You’ll report directly to the Cloud Operations Director in this role, with no people management responsibilities — just pure technical learning and growth!

A Day In Your Role:

  1. Team up with cross-functional experts (DevOps, Support, Software Engineering, QA) to implement ultra-reliable, high-performance systems in AWS and Azure.
  2. Dive into the configuration, monitoring, and optimization of cloud infrastructure, ensuring systems run smoothly with minimal downtime.
  3. Play a key part in building and refining automated deployment pipelines and CI/CD processes to streamline releases.
  4. Troubleshoot production issues and drive initiatives to prevent future disruptions, keeping systems stable and available.
  5. Set up and maintain powerful observability tools (logging, monitoring, alerting) to ensure fast incident detection and resolution.
  6. Take part in an on-call rotation, gaining invaluable real-time experience in incident management and root cause analysis.
  7. Document processes, system configurations, and best practices, contributing to a culture of knowledge-sharing and collaboration.

Your Skills, Experience and More:

  1. A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experience.
  2. A strong willingness to learn and grow in cloud technologies.
  3. Familiarity with AWS or Azure cloud services (EC2, S3, Azure VMs, Azure Storage, etc.) is a bonus, but not required.
  4. A solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing) and system administration (Linux/Windows).
  5. Exposure to scripting or programming languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation tasks.
  6. A passion for learning new technologies, frameworks, and methodologies in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  7. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and a collaborative mindset.
  8. Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey ideas and listen effectively.
