The Vacancy
SES are recruiting for a Finance Business Partner to join our SES team in the Midlands.
Reporting to the Commercial Director of the central region as finance partner to the Senior Leadership Team, this role aims to enhance divisional and company performance through providing financial advice, support, and challenge as needed. The focus will be on analysing current and historical performance, as well as forecasting future profit and cash performance. The role involves facilitating change through providing insight into relevant financial analysis, including monthly management accounts and dashboards, delivering robust budgets and forecasts, and maintaining finance controls and procedures consistent with company standards.
As our Finance Business Partner, some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Financial Support for Bids and Tenders:
Provide financial insight into customer and supply chain suitability, oversee tender financial requirements, and develop tender cashflow forecasts. Advise on cash and payment risk management while producing data on customer trends. Monitor divisional tender/bid budgets and address significant deviations. - Management and Analysis of Financial Performance:
Provide insight into monthly and quarterly divisional management accounts, analyse and explain variances to budget/forecast, and support the preparation of divisional cash flow forecasts. Create and analyse ad-hoc financial reports to support decision-making and collaborate on quarterly/annual budgets and forecasts with senior management. - Operational and Commercial Risk Management:
Support the Managing Director in identifying and mitigating financial and commercial risks, implement effective financial procedures, and oversee monthly and quarterly business reviews. Ensure performance is reported accurately, resolve queries, and review and validate project cash forecasting in collaboration with commercial management.
Skills and Experience:
We seek a highly experienced finance professional with a strong background in financial and management accounting, particularly within the construction industry. The ideal candidate will have advanced technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems, and a deep understanding of applicable accounting standards and statutory financial frameworks. They should hold relevant qualifications (ACA/FCA, ACCA/FCCA, or ACMA/FCMA) and have a proven track record of managing significant budgets and providing effective financial advice at a senior level.
Additionally, the candidate should possess strong commercial acumen, excellent communication and relationship-building skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. They must be proactive problem-solvers with a high level of attention to detail and a results-driven mindset. The ability to produce accurate, relevant information in a timely manner and to effectively challenge and influence senior management is essential. A practical, hands-on approach is also valued.
