We are seeking a Finance Controller / Manager to manage the day-to-day finances of the company.

Browning Environmental Communications is an entrepreneurial, independent boutique PR agency working internationally with blue-chip corporate clients and government/NGOs focused on environmental sustainability. We have grown quickly since 2021 and have a unique offering and skillset. We are expecting to grow fast in the next 1-2 years.

The role is for someone to manage the day-to-day finances and is a full-time position based in the company’s London office, reporting to the heads of the London and Washington D.C. offices, and the CEO.

Responsibilities and Scope

  • Reporting to group and office management teams, with full responsibility for finance and commercial matters.
  • Full ownership of the company accounting processes, risk management and financial control – developing and maintaining first class systems and controls.
  • Production of monthly management information for group, and UK & US businesses – management accounts, metrics and relevant KPIs.
  • Ensure statutory compliance across US and UK entities with filing deadlines (accounts, VAT, P11Ds, PSA etc) including US state and federal compliance.
  • Managing inter-company payments between UK and US entities.
  • Creating & maintaining company forecasts, including new business pipeline, and setting budgets.
  • Day to day AP & AR supervision/responsibility.
  • Business partnering with account handlers to manage project budgets, WIP and revenue recognition, and driving profitability.
  • Leading on cash flow management and mitigating foreign currency exposure risk.
  • Contribute to commercial insight to new business proposals and client contract negotiations.
  • Take lead on key supplier/stakeholder relations including bank, insurance and contracts.
  • Managing year end processes, including annual financial statements, audit and tax filings with external providers for the UK & US.
  • Evolve the development of the finance function and finance team.

Necessary Skills and Experience:

  • Qualified ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or QBE in a creative/marketing agency environment.
  • Balance sheet management – experience in creative agency project management from a financial perspective – e.g. deferred/accrued income, WIP.
  • Ideally, experience of working in a business with US reach.
  • Superior organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly motivated and proactive self-starter, capable of building new systems.

  • Excellent Xero and Excel skills, and ability with setting up excellent IT systems to capture business data.
