MSE has an exciting opportunity for you to join our Pharmacy team as an Associate Head of Technical Services.
You Will Be Partly Responsible For
The day-to-day provision of specialist Pharmacy Production/Technical Services to all contracted Trusts to fulfil the requirements of the Medicines Act, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Rules and Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Distributors (Orange Guide) and other National and International guidelines as may be applicable.
The day-to-day provision of specialist pharmaceutical advice to Trusts on resources, (including facilities, equipment and staff), policies and procedures required for the provision of an appropriate level of pharmaceutical service, conforming to all appropriate legal requirements and professional guidelines.
Planning, strategic development and leadership of the service.
Ensuring that quality and risk management is at the centre of the aseptic and radiopharmacy service.
The training of other staff in aspects of Production/Technical Services and General Pharmaceutical practice.
Main duties of the job
- Jointly responsible for satisfactory systems and the effective management of stockholding and workload planning in all production units.
- Working alongside the Head of Technical services to ensure full compliance with the terms of any ‘Specials’ Manufacturing Licences held and taking whatever action is necessary either to comply with MHRA reports or to ensure the renewal of such licences.
- Ensures the planning and execution of appropriate action to meet any requirements of External audit, in particular items required by regulatory agencies.
- Participates in planning the provision of pharmaceutical facilities, especially compounding facilities for the Trust.
- To evaluate in conjunction with the Operational lead the effect of changes in workload, staffing and service development (capacity planning) may have on service delivery and to ensure that appropriate actions are applied to ensure that the services operate at low risk to patients at all times.
- Participates in external audits of Pharmaceutical Services and Facilities with appropriate inspection and accreditation bodies.
- Partly responsible for the formulation and execution of appropriate validation programmes for any new developments within the Trusts, including the provision of new items of equipment and new facilities, in accordance with the requirements of Annex 15 of the Guide to Good Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Practice.
- Jointly responsible for the development and maintenance of controlled documentation systems in accordance with the requirements of the MHRA.
- Liaises with other Pharmacy and Clinical staff regarding the provision of suitable formulations of medicines, and environments for the manipulation and administration of medicines.
- Liaison with works and other support departments to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all units together with their associated plant and equipment.
- Jointly advises on the planning, construction and operation of pharmaceutical compounding facilities and suitable equipment for use in such units for Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, including liaison as necessary with external regulatory and planning authorities, and with appointed contractors, engineers, and consultants.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
- Pharmacy degree or equivalent to Masters level
- Registered Pharmacist with General Pharmaceutical council
- Masters in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance or equivalent
Desirable
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
- Member of other professional bodies.
Knowledge and experience Essential
- At least 5 years post qualification experience, Diploma / MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance. (PTQA).
- Knowledge of Good manufacturing practice and application in practice.
- Participation in audits including the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency inspections. (MHRA) Inspections.
- Formal management qualification or equivalent experience.
- Project management experience.
- Experience in budget management and control.
- Experience in leading a team/line management.
Desirable
- Experience in relevant computer skills including EXCEL and Technical services softwares.
- Diploma in leadership and management.
