Marine Survey Offshore Operations Manager – London, UK
Role Purpose:
The Marine Survey Offshore Operations Manager will provide technical and operational expertise, oversight, and support for all marine survey operations across submarine cable projects, reporting directly to the Marine Survey & Route Engineering Department Manager.
The role will drive the marine survey activities, by supporting the following:
- Purchasing Directorate for the tendering & sub-contracting process, including preparation of RFQ documentation, technical bid evaluations/clarifications, supplier recommendations, quantitative performance analysis and lessons learnt feedback.
- Sourcing and developing new suppliers, advocating technological advancements (ASV/AUV/LIDAR), and tracking of deep-water capable survey vessels in relation to scheduled projects.
- Project Marine Managers within the Project Management Directorate, tracking operational permitting availability, pre-operational documentation and procedures review, daily coordination, monitoring of operations and tracking progress during survey operations.
- Route Engineers for operational and technical elements of survey operations, including mobilisation, scope compliance (coverage, quality, data suitability), route development, additional work, and contract variation assessments.
- Sourcing company representatives, initiating briefings and coordinating mobilisation; issue of DPRs and ensuring coherent metrics gathering; storing and analysing company representative reports for input to lessons learnt feedback process.
- Assessing HSE or Technical Incidents during survey operations, liaising and coordination with Project HSE and Quality Managers, incident reporting, root cause analysis and lessons learnt feedback, within the company and to the company’s survey sub-contractor.
- Supporting the Sales & Marketing Directorate, liaising with Marine Bidding Managers to provide technical guidance for Head Contract compliances, feedback on technical developments into the company’s bidding strategy.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Hydrographic Surveying, with 5+ years operational experience, aligned with standard acquisition practices for the submarine cable industry (MBES, SSS, SBP, magnetometer, sediment sampling, CPTs and UXO gradiometer).
- Experience and familiarity of Project Management practices for hydrographic survey operations, specifically regarding vessel & equipment selection/capability, mobilisation process and challenges, programme schedules and evolution of scope(s), acquisition & quality compliance, incident evaluation and reporting, lessons learnt feedback and technical developments.
- An excellent ability to communicate effectively within the company and externally with suppliers and customers, delivering presentations in a confident and professional manner when required.
Self-motivated, flexible, and cooperative within a dedicated team, working within a matrix organisation structure for the successful delivery of the company’s projects.
