Job summaryWe are looking for a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist to support our services at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, working across both our hospital sites at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester.This is a full time 10 PA Consultant Anaesthetist post, which is based at Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospitals (BNHH). Pain and anaesthetic sessions would be anticipated to be delivered in Basingstoke. If desired, some anaesthetic sessions could be delivered cross-site but by mutual agreement and depending on service needs.The successful candidate will work within our friendly anaesthetic consultant team and provide departmental leadership and supervision of a group of junior and mid-grade doctors at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. They will also work with a multidisciplinary pain team, joining two other consultant anaesthetists, 3 specialist pain nurses, a specialist physiotherapist, an advanced physiotherapy practitioner and a pain psychologist.Main duties of the jobRole-specific duties:o Provide a safe, effective, responsive, and caring anaesthetic service to a level expected by a Consultant.o Agree a job plan with the Clinical Director in Anaesthetics and work flexibly as far as is possible to accommodate the needs of the Department.o To ensure that standards are maintained and developed through clinical audit, quality improvement hampshirehospitalscareers.co.uk and evidence-based research.o Participate actively in clinical governance, including reporting of incidents, investigation of serious incidents and any complaints.o Show a determination to meet or exceed the standards of the National Patients\’ Rights Charter.o To be familiar with the Royal College of Anaesthetists\’ curriculum for Junior Doctor Training and contribute to their training requirements, including tutorials and educational supervision where requiredAbout usBasingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital (BNHH)Anaesthesia is provided for elective and emergency surgery across 7 main theatres, 4 day-case theatres, 1 ophthalmic theatre and 2 obstetric theatres. The CEPOD and obstetric theatre are available 24 hours per day and there are also dedicated trauma lists seven days per week.There are two critical care units (A&B) with a total of 18 beds that are used flexibly to provide intensive care and high dependency level care. There are approximately 1050 admissions per year to Basingstoke Critical Care. Medical admissions account for 60% of the case mix, emergency surgery 15% and elective surgery 25%. Critical Care Outreach is available from both Critical Care sites.Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH)Anaesthesia is provided for elective and emergency surgery in the main 5 Nightingale theatres and 3 daycase theatres. Florence Portal House accommodates our obstetric centre and includes 2 elective theatres for breast and gynaecology. The CEPOD theatre operate half days in hours and at night and 24 hours at weekends. Obstetric theatres operate 24 hours per day.The Critical Care Unit currently has a 10-bed unit caring for a mixture of HDU (level 2) and ICU (level 3) patients.
