Overview of the role We are working with a large Housing Association who are looking to recruit a Grounds Maintenance Operative to join their Sustainable Places team in Thamesmead.
This is a hands-on, outdoor role where you’ll be responsible for maintaining green spaces across housing estates, parks, and communal areas. You’ll play a key role in keeping outdoor environments safe, clean, and welcoming for residents all year round.
Responsibilities
Maintain shrub beds through pruning, weeding, and leaf clearance using hand tools and machinery
Cut grass using hand-held and ride-on mowers
Remove litter, leaves, debris, and waste from landscaped areas
Carry out weed and pest control, graffiti removal, and snow clearance when required
Patrol parks, mark sports pitches, and carry out safety checks on play areas
Support tree maintenance teams and assist with keeping waterways clear
Follow all health & safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE and uniformRequirements
Previous experience in grounds maintenance or similar outdoor work
NVQ Level 1 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
Full UK manual driving licence
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Confident xiskglj using a range of tools, machinery, and equipment
Good understanding of horticultural practices
Physically fit and capable of manual work
Clear, polite communication skills
Willingness to undergo a Basic DBS checkAdditional information
Working hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 3:30pm
