Job Purpose and Opportunity

The Data Centre Manager (DCM) is a key leadership position responsible for the overall operation of a data centre, ensuring optimal performance, efficiency, and compliance with company and regulatory standards.

This role involves managing and developing a passionate team, overseeing health & safety, security, maintenance, budgets, and commercial development of the data centre. The DCM will ensure that all certifications remain current and compliant while also managing third-party contractors and service providers.

A strong commercial understanding of the site is essential, as the DCM will work closely with Sales and Product Management teams to drive business growth. The DCM will also host prospective client visits and site tours to highlight the capabilities and benefits of the facility.

Success in this role will be measured by customer satisfaction, employee engagement, site availability, energy efficiency (PUE reduction), cost control, and effectiveness of investments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead by example, embodying company values and fostering a culture of service excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, security, and accreditation requirements.
  • Manage scheduling, shift cover, and holiday planning to ensure 24/7 operational continuity.
  • Oversee budgets, ensuring financial controls align with company authorisation processes.
  • Manage maintenance procedures and contracts with internal teams and third-party subcontractors.
  • Ensure timely execution of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) within budget.
  • Optimize energy efficiency (PUE) and best practices for airflow, cooling, and equipment installation.
  • Follow and improve service management processes, including Major Incidents, Change, and Problem Management.
  • Maintain clear escalation procedures for unplanned site issues and liaise with subcontractors to ensure quick resolution.
  • Monitor and ensure work on-site is performed per method statements and risk assessments.
  • Provide high-quality technical support and service to clients via ticketing systems, phone, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Host client tours, collaborating with Sales to showcase the data centre\’s capabilities.
  • Maintain a strong focus on customer satisfaction, ensuring contractual obligations and service levels are met.
  • Support Project Management teams to deliver client requirements on schedule.
  • Keep the Risk Register updated.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting standards.
  • Manage and optimise site capacity, including space, power infrastructure, and connectivity.
  • Conduct weekly site inspections to maintain cleanliness, safety, and operational standards.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Flexibility to adapt responsibilities based on business needs.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information professionally.
  • Some out-of-hours work and participation in an on-call rota are required.
  • Travel between sites may be necessary depending on location.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience in data centre operations and facilities management.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Proven experience in a mission-critical data centre environment.
  • Background in mechanical & electrical (M&E) systems.
  • Proactive, driven, and solution-oriented approach.
  • Excellent analytical, process, and documentation skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of UK regulatory requirements relevant to data centres, including health & safety legislation, ISO 27001, ISO 14000, and PCI compliance.
