Role Description:
This is an excellent opportunity to join an expanding fire safety consultancy as a Graduate Fire Engineer.
The primary service delivery of the Fire Engineering Division is as follows:
- Fire Safety Strategy Design & Development (Fire Strategy, Fire Statement, etc.)
- External Wall Fire Safety (FRAEW, Remediation, etc.)
- Fire Engineering Analysis & Assessment (CFD, Evacuation Modelling, etc.)
- Expert Services (Advisory, Witness, etc.)
- Fire Safety Audits
- Peer Review
- Safety Case
The responsibilities of the Graduate Fire Engineer are as follows (it should be noted that the Graduate Fire Engineer is to be fully trained and supported throughout the delivery of these responsibilities by senior engineers):
- Learn about our full range of fire safety engineering services, including fire safety strategies based on UK and international regulations and creating fire strategy drawings.
- Produce fire safety strategy documents to inform and support the design team throughout the design process.
- Identify and specify appropriate fire protection systems, i.e. automatic fire detection, suppression to support fire engineering design solutions, etc.
- Learn to carry out and review fire engineering calculations including smoke modelling and evacuation analysis from simple hand calculations to complex computational modelling.
- Understand and apply UK fire safety legislation and guidance.
- Identify design related issues and propose solutions as appropriate.
- Support senior engineers in offering independent and impartial advice to clients on all aspects of fire safety engineering.
- Build strong relationships with key individuals at all levels within the client organisation.
- Work on projects across all sectors including residential, commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, later living, heritage, aviation, energy, etc.
- Work on projects of varying scales from small re-developments to masterplans.
Skills:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following qualities and qualification:
- BEng / BSc (or better) with a grade of at least 2:1
- Excellent English speaking and writing skills
- Pro-active and ambitious mindset
- Excellent communication and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively with a team
- Enthusiasm to develop technical knowledge and skills
- An understanding of UK fire safety guidance and legislation would be beneficial (Approved Document B, BS9999, BS9991, etc.)
