My client is looking to hire a Principal Mechanical Engineer (Instrument Design) to play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of their innovative diagnostic platform. This is an opportunity to make significant advances (sometimes from concept) to their industry disrupting technology.
About the Role:
As Principal Mechanical Engineer, you'll take the technical lead in the design and development of complex electromechanical systems, including fluid control, pneumatics, and temperature control. You'll guide the creation of mechanical designs from concept through to manufacture, ensuring solutions meet technical requirements while balancing performance, cost, and reliability.
What Youβll Be Doing:
- Leading mechanical design activities, from concept generation to detailed CAD design (SolidWorks preferred) and prototyping.
- Defining design requirements and developing test strategies to validate performance.
- Identifying technical risks and proposing solutions to overcome challenges.
- Collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams across the UK and US to ensure seamless integration of designs.
- Managing external development partners and suppliers to ensure delivery of high-quality components and systems.
- Mentoring junior team members and fostering a collaborative team environment.
What Weβre Looking For:
- Significant experience leading the design of electromechanical systems β ideally in medical devices or regulated environments.
- Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks) and experience with rapid prototyping techniques.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a track record of resolving complex technical challenges.
- Familiarity with ISO 13485 and design for manufacturing principles.
- Experience with FEA software (Comsol preferred) is desirable.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Why Join?
My client is a dynamic, forward-thinking company at the forefront of diagnostics technology. You'll be part of a collaborative, supportive environment where your ideas and expertise will help shape the future of healthcare.
