Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid.
One of two UK-qualified Probation Officers, you will undertake all offender management tasks. This will include assessing and managing the risk posed by offenders. With lead responsibility for interventions, you will develop partnerships, train and nurture local staff and provide input to the island’s Safeguarding Board on behalf of the Probation Service.
You will contribute directly to public protection through your role as Chair of the island’s Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements. You must also deliver interventions to young people who are considered ‘at risk’ of offending through the Youth Diversion Scheme, responding to crises or emergencies, providing guidance, support, and referrals as necessary for those serving sentences within the community.
