The role requires the ability to effectively manage the programming, purchasing, propagation, spacing and growing of plants. This is met through efficient watering, feeding and spraying of the crops to ensure the crops meet the expected sales date and quality criteria/ specification. You will be required to assist in other daily site operations as, and when the need arises., * Ensure plants are watered and fed as required to maintain growth

  • Monitor crops for pets and disease through direct crop monitoring and action as required

  • Calculate and mix up stock solutions of feeds accurately to ensure their application meets required levels (check pH/EC levels)

  • Be able to read and understand plant growing specifications and ensure all actions are taken to fulfill these specifications

  • Take control of production staff when cultural operations take place such as pinching, spacing, moving etc

  • Identify improvements and refinements within processes and implement these when necessary

  • Take control of the nursery production planning after discussions with the nursery Manager. Identify length of growing time, varietal choice and crop locations.

  • Ensure all batches are clearly labelled with the relevant information – planting date/ week and variety for purposes of traceability. Record in the nursery computer all programming and monitoring of plant performance to obtain a "picture" for predicting future crop programming.

  • Ensure all production and work areas are maintained properly- weed free, paths kept clear to avoid trip hazards and hosepipes not left crossing pathways

  • Liaise with Production Team Leader and provide cover to endure that all areas of site operation are achieved

  • Shared responsibility to lock, unlock and ensure site security

  • Adopt and adhere to the nursery’s ‘can do’ policy

  • Adhere to both Company and the Health and Safety Policy & Regulations. If you identify an issue, report it to the nursery Manager.

  • Computer Literate.

  • Be a proactive, self-motivated team player able to work autonomously or as part of the wider team.

  • Effective at working under pressure, managing priorities and using time efficiently.

  • Excellent communication skills and good attention to detail.

  • People-management skills and the ability to lead, motivate the team on a daily basis and achieve company targets and as per our customer needs

  • Good numeracy, literacy and organisation skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Ability to meet tight deadline.

  • Experience in working in a similar role within the horticultural industry., * Supervisory: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • UK driving licence and own vehicle (preferred)

  • PA1 Pesticide Certificate (preferred)

  • PA6 Spraying Licence (preferred)

  • Health & wellbeing programme, This is a permanent position with variable hours; busy season (Apr – Aug) 40-60 hours per week, low season 30-35 hours per week. Based on 07/07.30 – 4/4.30pm however flexibility is required.
