Systems Admin / Automation Engineer, elite quant trading startup, London (on site)

Our startup quant hedge fund client is now looking for a capable Systems Admin / Automation Engineer. The successful candidate will work closely with the CTO to take over day-to-day responsibilities related to their internal systems and in-house software infrastructure. Depending on the experience and goals of the candidate, there is some flexibility in structuring the workload and focusing on different aspects of the job.

There is an excellent opportunity here in supporting the early stages of a systematic trading firm with huge potential, both from a learning and compensation perspective. As time goes on there will be more and more opportunity to get involved in engineering work.

Responsibilities include:

Sysadmin / Devops work – (initially about 80% of the role, then down to ~50%):

  • maintain local and cloud servers, and OS images
  • basic hardware maintenance at the office
  • network setup (in-office network, VPN)
  • various security related tasks (software & network setup, security keys, certificates, isolation, auditing)

Automation and release engineering

  • develop and maintain in-house development environment setup (including cloud interop)
  • develop and maintain CI/CD systems and the release process for internal applications
  • create and maintain in-house monitoring system

What you'll bring:

  • Good knowledge of operating system fundamentals (Linux in particular, ideally Ubuntu)
  • Proficient at the Unix command line and shell scripting
  • Exceptional problem-solving – key for the role as it involves working with a wide range of tools/technologies
  • Baseline knowledge of computer architecture & networking
  • Baseline knowledge of computer science concepts (algorithms & data structures)
  • Reasonable level of coding experience, ideally in python (given the requirements of the role)
  • AWS skills ideal but not required
