Members of the General Chiropractic Council, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
The General Chiropractic Council (GCC) is seeking to appoint two members to its Council from August 2025. One vacancy is for a registrant member and the other is a for a lay member. Applications for both roles are welcomed from applicants in any part of the UK although one of those appointed (either lay or registrant) must live or work wholly or mainly in Scotland.
The role is remunerated, at £7,800 per annum with a time commitment of approximately 15 days per year, including attendance at quarterly meetings of Council in March, June, September and December with travel and subsistence covered for meetings held in-person in London. In 2025 Council meetings alternate between in-person and on-line, virtual meetings. The appointed candidate will also be expected to serve on a Committee of the GCC.
The GCC is an independent statutory body established by Parliament to regulate chiropractors in the United Kingdom.
Council members have a pivotal role at GCC, leading our commitment to deliver greater benefit to the public, our registrants and stakeholders within a changing regulatory environment.
Registrant Applicants must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council at the time of application and must remain so during the term of their appointment, usually four years.
The process we use to recruit new Council members is carefully scrutinised by the Professional Standards Authority. This includes looking at the actions we take to meet our equality obligations under the law, as well as how we follow the principles of a good appointments process, namely: merit, fairness, transparency and openness and inspiring confidence.
We have produced a candidate pack to guide you and includes the information needed to make an effective application. Candidates need to demonstrate that they have the necessary skills, knowledge and experience for the role of Council member meeting the requirements of the role specification and competencies described in the pack.
For registrants, we seek applicants that see patients on a full-time and regular basis: with experience and capability with skills and insights gained in leading and managing teams in a medium-sized or large clinic, possibly within a multi-disciplinary setting; with commercial awareness able to scrutinise financial performance information identifying questions that arise; and involvement in the development of the wider profession.
For applicants who are lay people (not a registrant), we seek experience in financial management – forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning with a recognised accountancy qualification. Applicants with experience in preparing and analysing management accounts with an ability to interrogate and interpret complex financial information to support decision-making will be of significant interest.
The GCC aims to be as diverse as the public it protects. We welcome applications from people from diverse backgrounds with experience in the public, commercial and/or charity sectors, regardless of sex, age, disability, race, faith, sexual orientation, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy and maternity status or gender reassignment. The GCC is disability confident committed and disabled applicants meeting the minimum criteria for the role will be interviewed.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 5.00pm 12 March 2025.
We are planning to conduct interviews at the London office on 7 and 8 April 2025.
