Job Description
Our client, a leader in the water industry, is looking for a Design Manager to join their team. This role involves working on large pipeline schemes within a long-term framework for a major water utility, covering both Capital Enhancement and Maintenance projects. The Design Manager will oversee the design process from concept to implementation, report to the Framework Manager, and help build a new team focused on delivering key business values.\\nExperience Required for Design Manager:\\n- Previous experience in design and management of potable water mains\\n- Strong working knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and common data environments\\n- Degree or HNC in civil engineering (or equivalent)\\n- Membership (or working towards membership) of a recognized engineering institution, such as Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer\\n- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members\\n- Self-motivated, results-driven, and positive in approach\\n- Experience in people management, time management, and project design management.\\nResponsibilities of Design Manager:\\n- Oversee the technical integrity of project solutions throughout the project lifecycle.\\n- Ensure design compliance with customer and statutory standards, regulations, and specifications.\\n- Manage external consultants, ensuring contract requirements are met and appropriate actions are taken if not.\\n- Develop reliable, maintainable asset designs that meet project objectives.\\n- Lead multi-discipline teams, including internal engineers, consultants, and partners.\\n- Manage project engineering budgets, schedules, and implement change control processes.\\n- Ensure all engineering outputs comply with health and safety regulations, quality systems, and client standards.\\n- Evaluate designs and solutions, and support supply chain selection for specialist input.\\n- Collaborate with technical, operational, maintenance, and strategic stakeholders.\\n- Liaise with Framework Manager, Project Managers, and consultants on project issues, scope changes, and risks.\\n- Understand and manage temporary works design responsibilities.\\n- Ensure adherence to the company’s Code of Conduct and promote safe, compliant working practices.\\n- Foster a collaborative, respectful work environment, encouraging teamwork and continuous improvement
