Key Responsibilities:
ยท To design Concrete, Steel, Masonry, and Timber structures by hand calculations and engineering software.
ยท Undertake AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Micro/InfoDrainage designs where required.
ยท Prepare conceptual designs that are practical, economic and buildable to client standards.
ยท Prepare detailed designs in accordance with current standards and codes including calculations, design risk assessments and sufficiently detailed sketches for the preparation of working drawings.
ยท To instruct and oversee the production of engineering drawings in accordance to the company CAD QA standards.
ยท Supervise the work of technicians within the department and potentially external supplier as appropriate to complete project activities.
ยท Project leader on small projects or deliver elements on larger projects.
ยท When acting as project leader monitor project progress and spend.
ยท Conduct visual and detail examinations of rail and civil assets and produce examination reports.
ยท Ensure that design work undertaken is carried out in accordance with company quality procedures and that a high level of professionalism is maintained.
ยท Prepare responses of design related queries during the design/construction phases to an amicable resolution.
ยท Undertake site visits and attend design meetings.
ยท Attend meetings independently to present their solutions to an audience of varied seniority, sector and background.
ยท Act as checker of calculations, reports and drawings for project team, other internal teams and external designers.
ยท Assist bid directors with fee proposals, and on smaller projects prepare design fees.
Requirements:
ยท Relevant degree qualification โ Upper 2nd BEng/ MEng in Engineering.
ยท 5+ years of professional experience in the Civil Engineering Industry.
ยท Member of either the ICE or IStructE.
ยท Knowledge of Design to Eurocodes and DMRB is essential.
ยท Experience in using structural design and analysis software such as TEDDS, SCIA Engineer etc.
ยท Experience in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Micro/InfoDrainage.
ยท Sufficient technical ability to work independently and develop own solutions.
ยท Ability to work independently and see tasks through to completion with minimal input.
ยท Rail consultancy background is preferable.
ยท Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to generate and technically review reports.
ยท To be positive and articulate.
ยท Be proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
ยท Enjoy working in a team environment, sharing ideas and collaborating with colleagues.
ยท Have con๏ฌdence to work under pressure with the ability to prioritise and plan effectively.
Must hold a clean UK Drivers licence.
Environment & Working Hours
ยท The office is an open plan environment.
ยท This role requires meeting attendance where appropriate.
ยท This role requires site visits and occasional travel away from home.
ยท Overtime & Night shifts and weekend working will be required on occasion. Overtime and weekend working will be remunerated.
