The Role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive HR Advisor to join our team on a full-time and permanent basis. This role is pivotal in supporting and delivering HR initiatives that align with our organisational objectives. You will provide day-to-day HR support and guidance to managers and employees across the business, ensuring compliance with UK employment legislation and fostering a culture of best practice.

As an HR Advisor, you will work closely with the Head of Human Resources and oversee all stages of the employee lifecycle—from recruitment and onboarding to development, retention, and offboarding. This is an excellent opportunity to shape HR practices in a dynamic and evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for all HR-related queries, providing accurate advice to managers and employees on policies, procedures, and employment law across all locations in the UK.
  • Support line managers in effectively managing their teams by providing coaching and guidance on people-related matters.
  • Supporting employee relations cases, including grievances, disciplinaries, absence management, and performance issues, ensuring processes are handled sensitively, fairly, and in line with legal requirements.
  • Overseeing absence management cases and collaborating with Occupational Health to ensure long-term and intermittent absences are addressed proactively, as well as coordinating return-to-work programs as needed.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating HR policies, procedures, and the employee handbook, ensuring they reflect current legislation and organisational needs.
  • Accurately manage payroll administration in collaboration with the finance and external payroll team.
  • Generate and analyse HR metrics to inform decision-making and identify trends in areas such as absence, turnover, and employee engagement.
  • Work alongside the Head of Human Resources on key projects such as talent management, organisational development, DEI, learning and development, and employee engagement programmes.
  • Contribute to the development of initiatives that support employee wellbeing, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Assist in implementing systems and processes to improve HR efficiency and enhance the employee experience.
  • Ensure all HR activities comply with UK employment laws and internal policies, keeping up-to-date with legislative changes and advising on their impact.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential HR records, including employee files, contracts, absence records, and compliance documentation.

Essential Experience

  • A minimum of 4 years experience in an HR Advisor or generalist role.
  • CIPD Level 3/5 qualified or working towards this qualification.
  • Significant experience managing complex employee relations issues, including disciplinaries and grievances, with a confident and solutions-focused approach.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and its practical application.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build strong relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail.
  • Discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proficiency in HR information systems (BambooHR, preferred) Microsoft Suite and G-suite.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • A university degree in Human Resources, Organisational Psychology, Business, or a related field is desirable.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced start-up or scale-up environment.
  • Knowledge of HR data analytics and reporting, with the ability to derive insights to inform HR strategy.
  • Familiarity with B-Corp principles and practices and interest in sustainability.
  • Previous involvement in diversity and inclusion initiatives or employee wellbeing programmes.
  • Willingness to travel across various work locations in the UK on occasion.
