Roles And Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise nightly warehouse operations, ensuring the timely receipt, storage, and dispatch of goods.
- Utilise the WMS to monitor inventory movements, allocate resources effectively, and maintain real-time accuracy in inventory records.
- Ensure all incoming and outgoing shipments are processed in line with company standards and deadlines.
- Oversee the loading and unloading of goods, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage and maintain safety standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of the warehouse to ensure cleanliness, organisation, and adherence to operational procedures.
Team Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and manage a team of forklift drivers, fostering a positive and productive working environment.
- Organise and assign nightly tasks to team members based on operational priorities and individual capabilities.
- Monitor team performance and provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and support to ensure operational excellence.
- Conduct shift briefings to communicate priorities, safety reminders, and operational updates.
Safety and Compliance
- Enforce compliance with all health and safety regulations, ensuring that the team adheres to best practices while operating forklifts and handling goods.
- Carry out routine safety checks on forklifts and other equipment, reporting and addressing maintenance issues promptly.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, including the correct use of PPE.
- Investigate and document any safety incidents or near misses, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
WMS Utilisation
- Leverage the WMS to monitor and analyse operational data, such as inventory levels, order progress, and resource utilisation.
- Train team members in using the WMS for efficient workflow management and reporting.
- Identify and resolve system discrepancies or errors, liaising with IT support or system administrators as needed.
Performance and Reporting
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), such as throughput, accuracy, and operational efficiency.
- Produce nightly reports summarising shift activities, challenges, and achievements, and share them with the Operations Manager.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, recommending and implementing strategies to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Other Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including logistics, quality control, and inventory management, to ensure smooth operations.
- Support employee training initiatives and ensure compliance with any updates to operational policies or systems.
- Manage shift schedules, timekeeping, and labour allocation to maintain optimal workforce coverage.
Skills And Qualifications
- Proven experience in warehouse management, preferably in a night shift role.
- Proficiency in using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices in warehouse environments.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Forklift operation certification is preferred.
