Underwriting Manager

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Leadership Team in delivering our growth strategy for Europe. As a key contributor to the region’s Digital Customer Experience Strategy, a highly engaged, business-focused and innovative manager will make the difference!

You will be working within a global logistics organization with a team of experienced supply chain risk solution specialists, driving our underwriting strategy.

What you’ll do

The Underwriting Manager is responsible for managing the operational activities of an underwriting team across multiple product lines. Supporting risk management activities to assess customer and portfolio risks. This position evaluates the underwriting processes involving application information, underwriting models, developing customer strategies, and approving new opportunities. The successful applicant ensures the underwriting team is compliant with all Product, Legal, and Audit guidelines for the region.

  • Lead and develop an international team of Underwriters, effectively prioritizing and organizing work to maximize opportunities and deliver business results.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales and Marketing through all phases of underwriting to ensure seamless customer experience including training for new starters.
  • Implement and monitor adherence to Underwriting framework/set guidelines within own department.
  • Ensure continuous improvement and empowerment of direct reports and self by developing and executing on development plans to ensure quality levels are obtained.
  • Monitor and report relevant KPIs and quality requirements.
  • Process complex and large deals from submittal to issuing proposals.
  • Support policy modifications and renewals for existing customers.
  • Liaise with the Operations Director and assist with the implementation of new initiatives, processes, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate governance, UPS standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Design policies to align seamlessly with our Digital Strategy and customer centricity in our 4 key insurance markets (UK, Germany, France, and Italy).

What you’ll need

  • Insurance underwriting experience is essential, preferably within the Cargo Marine industry.
  • Experience of leading a team, monitoring performance and ensuring your team is focused on the key challenges at all times.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills, confident handling, analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Educated to Degree level, evidence of personal and professional development including Chartered Insurance Institute exams (ACII) or equivalent is essential.
  • French, Italian, or German language skills beneficial.
