Position : Senior Manager Government Relations

Reporting to : Head of Public Affairs and Strategic Partnerships

Salary : £79,159 per annum

Location: City Hall, London E16 1ZE

Our standard policy is two to three days in the office, and this role involves more frequent on-site presence, out of hours work to reflect parliamentary and government business, time spent out and about, depending on business needs.

About the role

Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing team to provide expert public affairs advice to the Mayor, Deputy Mayors, and senior GLA staff. Drive the GLA’s government relations strategy, leading impactful lobbying campaigns and high-level engagement with parliamentarians and key stakeholders. You’ll oversee a dynamic work programme, strengthening the GLA’s influence on policy decisions and advancing its agenda nationally.

About you

We would love to hear from you if you have the skills, capability, knowledge and track record in:

  1. Inclusive leadership experience, managing and supporting high-performing teams while championing equity, diversity, and professional excellence.
  2. Proven experience in team leadership and driving operational delivery of public affairs strategies.
  3. Knowledge of central government, Parliament, and policy-making, with an understanding of London-wide issues.
  4. Written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse senior political and stakeholder audiences with clarity and inclusivity.
  5. Experience in public affairs or a high-profile political environment, navigating complex political landscapes with cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  6. Building and maintaining relationships with senior political stakeholders, fostering collaboration across diverse communities and perspectives.
