Astute People’s Power Team are exclusively working with the South Clyde Energy Centre to recruit a full complement of Operations & Maintenance staff. The plant, currently under construction, is capable of processing up to 350,000 tonnes of waste per year, producing power for up to 70,000 homes. This new build Power Station is due to enter commercial operation by the end of 2026. Now is an ideal time to join the power station as you’ll be involved in full plant commissioning, training & mobilisation.

We are looking for an Operations Engineer to join the Operations Team on this brand new facility. As the Operations Engineer you’ll be providing day to day support to the Operations Manager & Shift Team Leaders with the safe & efficient operation of the plant. There will be a focus on improving efficiency & plant performance to meet contractual obligations in terms of availability & power production.

Responsibilities and Duties:

As the Operations Engineer you will be responsible for:

  1. Supporting the Shift Team Leaders & Operations Manager with managing plant consumables, preparing reports and monitoring plant performance.
  2. Assisting with the planning & schedule of work including allocation of shift cover.
  3. Carrying out investigations into plant issues and abnormal processes.
  4. Providing technical support across all departments.
  5. Carrying out plant performance reviews focusing on continuous improvement to maximise plant availability & efficiency relating to fuel input & energy output.
  6. Supporting with the management of fuel & consumable deliveries.
  7. Leading the Fuel Reception Team.
  8. Acting as Senior Authorised Person for Safe Systems of Work including Permit Issuing, Safety Documentation and Mechanical / HV / LV safety.
  9. Carrying out risk assessments and method statements.
  10. Standing in for the Operations Manager as and when required.
  11. Minimising HSE impacts across the plant.

Professional Qualifications:

We are looking for someone with the following:

  1. A recognised qualification in an engineering field at HNC level or higher; other qualifications below this will be considered with extensive experience.
  2. Ideally qualified with an IOSH / NEBOSH or equivalent with an appreciation of workplace Health & Safety including knowledge of Safe Systems of Work, LOTO, Isolations, SOP’s, RAMS would also be considered.
  3. Ideally a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship.

Personal Skills:

The Operations Engineer would suit someone with:

  1. At least five years supervisory or leadership experience or able to demonstrate extensive leadership qualities.
  2. Qualified to act as a Senior Authorised Person / SAP for all HV Switching activities.
  3. Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment gained in an industry such as Energy from Waste, Biomass, Coal, CCGT, Nuclear / Power Generation, Petrochemical or Oil & Gas etc ideally with Steam Raising plant.
  4. Marine Engineers from Merchant Fleet or Royal Navy will be considered.
  5. Experience in leading a team of Process Operators / Technicians.
  6. Involvement in plant mobilisation and commissioning is desirable but not essential.
