An exciting opportunity has arisen to meet the growing portfolio of transport planning projects within one of the UK’s leading independent consultancies. PJA is a specialist design practice with an integrated approach to Transport, Placemaking and Engineering. Our holistic approach ensures both innovative and deliverable design solutions and supports our vision to create better places through good design.
For Consultant/Senior , the role will require working across a range of different projects, although the focus will be working in our growing public sector facing team.
For Principal/Associate, the role will provide flexibility to work across a range of different projects, although the focus will be supporting the development of our growing public sector facing team.
Our ideal candidate
Our ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or above with experience in Transport Planning in a public sector environment. They should have experience of delivering small to medium sized commissions (depending on experience and role) with both public and private sector clients with only minimal supervision required. Principal/Associate grades will also have experience project managing commissions with both public and private sector clients.
As a confident communicator verbally and in writing, they will be required to present and communicate their ideas clearly and concisely both internally and also to a wide range of external audiences. Chartership with a relevant professional body would be advantageous but not essential.
They will also have:
- Experience in public sector facing transport planning and/or working in a public sector transport planning team.
- Experience of a wide range of multi-modal transport projects
- Experience of public sector governance processes and working in a political environment
- Experience in the production of, and providing advice regarding, transport strategies and policies
- Experience of the development of business cases and funding bids, including knowledge of Government Business Case guidance including Green Book and TAG
- Experience leading bids for local government projects and/or frameworks – desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge and experience of applying government policy and guidance to projects
- An understanding of the planning process in England
- Excellent communication skills and interface with clients
- Ability to contribute / lead on bids and financial proposals
- Enjoy working in a team environment, sharing knowledge and demonstrate pride in work.
Principal/Associate grades will have significant experience of the above, along with:
- Ability to train junior staff
- Ability to contribute / lead on bids and financial proposals
- Excellent Project Management skills
- Strong technical background with knowledge of industry specific modelling software
