The purpose of the Data Science Architect role is to:
- Define end-to-end solutions for IT change primarily focused on the data domain.
- Create designs that are fit for purpose from a functional, non-functional, service, and security point of view.
- Deliver solutions that progress the overall architecture journey and are aligned to Aviva’s IT Strategy.
- Align with standards, design approaches, and governance.

What you\’ll do:
- Create data solutions and design for projects to meet Aviva’s standards for technology and ensure they meet architecture principles of availability, security, resilience, and performance.
- Produce design options with associated costs, benefits, and risks to enable investment decisions.
- Work with product owners, architects, platform teams, and other project colleagues to agree to trade-offs between long-term and short-term goals.
- Responsible for the integrity of the end-to-end solution across Platforms, including transition states used to achieve the target state.
- Shape and estimate IT initiatives and feature team sprints, ensuring that component parts deliver against business outcomes.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Record any solution debt incurred during the transition phase of the solution and address the same in future phases.
- Develop mitigation strategies to address identified risks.
- Participate in post-implementation reviews and provide feedback to improve future solution designs.
- Keep up with technological developments and evaluate how well they fit into the company\’s architecture.
- Evaluate and recommend tools, frameworks, and platforms to support the development and deployment of data and analytical solutions.
- Support defining the architecture practices and standards and implementing them in the project solutions.
- Conduct architecture reviews to ensure compliance with established guidelines.
- Ensure design artefacts are produced to support partner groups for service, security, architecture, and engineering.
- Peer review the design artefacts of others.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to less experienced team members as required.
- Contribute to the Solution Architecture community across Aviva Group leading on or participating in initiatives to improve Aviva’s approach to design.
- Depending on the nature of the specific role, problems can range from repetitive daily issues to complex technical problems requiring significant expertise.
- Call out problems according to guidelines.
- Recommend design solutions or ideas in response to challenges faced by your project or feature team in line with policy, process, and other guidelines.
- Accountable for recommending change based on expert know-how and analysis.
What you\’ll bring:
- Proven experience in data and analytics architecture design and implementation.
- Experience in Snowflake, Snowpark, and another Snowflake ecosystem.
- Strong knowledge of data lifecycle management, data retention, data modelling, and working knowledge of cloud computing and modern development practices.
- Experience in data science platforms to enable model development, MLOps, Cloudera, AWS.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL.
- Experience with technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka.
- Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically.
- Solid understanding of end-to-end project lifecycle methodologies (mainly agile).
- Strong technical experience, with the ability to apply it across a variety of customer and business scenarios.
- The role holder must care about technology and how to exploit it for the benefit of our customers.
- Exposure to the following is considered an advantage: Snowflake, AWS, Cloudera, Informatica tools.
- Financial acumen to support the development of cases and to inform key design decisions.
- Good communication skills with the ability to provide technical guidance to peers and project colleagues.
- Strong personal impact and influence.
- Good partner and relationship management and leadership skills.
What you\’ll get:
- The salary band for this position ranges from $107,700 to $200,100. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as internal equity.
