Are you a hands-on, COMAH – certified, technical Fire Engineer looking to move into an exciting role within technical consultancy? Are you interested in a customer-facing role, project managing change both within the UK and internationally? We are a rapidly expanding, world-class consultancy provider, looking to hire an additional Fire Engineer. Hybrid office and WFH available.
BASIC SALARY: £55,000 – £69,000 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience)

JOB DESCRIPTION: Fire Engineer – COMAH, Petrochemical, Oil & Gas
Based from our regional Hub in Hertfordshire, this is an office-based and a travel-oriented role, hands-on and customer-facing.
You will undertake a selection of consulting activities on projects as directed by the Lead Engineer, ensuring work is completed in accordance with client requirements, to schedule and in line with quality procedures.
Work is predominantly based in the Oil and Gas / Petrochemical fire engineering & consultancy sector, and will include overseas travel.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Undertake a variety of projects, whilst adhering to established quality procedures at all times.
- COMAH / Seveso site emergency preparedness.
- Undertake site inspection visits and attend meetings.
- Client facing position on pre-FEED and FEED projects.
- Conceptual active Fire System Design.
- Build effective relationships with clients.
- Deliver work in accordance with project schedules.
- Analyse and evaluate plant fire protection systems for compliance and effectiveness.
- Provide advice and guidance on fire safety related matters.
- Liaise with stakeholders and prepare detailed engineering reports and associated drawings.
- Conduct tasks in a safe manner, in accordance with company QHSE System.
- Obtain and use the correct tools / equipment for the work and not to use any that are unsafe or damaged.
- Report any accident, near-miss, dangerous occurrence or dangerous condition to the Management Team.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
- Experience in high hazard industry such as COMAH / Seveso, petrochemical, Oil and Gas industries.
- Experience of CAD and hydraulic calculation software.
- Conceptual Fire water system design including demand calculations.
- Hazard assessment and Hazardous Area Classification.
- Experience with Consequence analysis programs.
- Fire protection engineering experience, Fire and Gas detection.
- Good working knowledge of BS, NFPA, FM, API, EI and other fire related standards concerning onshore petrochemical and oil & gas facilities.
- Experience in fire risk assessments.
- Fire Engineering or similar qualification.
- QRA & OBRA (desirable).
- Willingness to travel.
- Experience in relevant engineering disciplines.
- Competent in the operation of IT hardware and software packages.
- Ability to prioritise conflicting business demands.
- Good customer interface skills and commercial awareness.
- Effective in the uses of business database systems.
- UK driving licence.
