Role Overview
As an Associate Solicitor you will undertake work as necessary and directed on client matters providing quality legal advice and other legal services to the firm’s clients. You will also contribute to the overall profitability of the firm, with particular reference to providing efficient, cost-effective work and contributing to practice development through marketing and selling strategies in accordance with the firm's relevant policies.
What will your day look like?
- Take instructions from clients and give legal advice, including obtaining evidence and, where appropriate, litigation, to achieve appropriate resolutions for the clients.
- Achieve time recording and fee income targets to ensure profitable working. Attain required Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours to comply with Law Society Regulations.
- Review cases and other relevant matters with supervisor to ensure quality legal advice is provided and compliance with the firm’s policies and procedures. Complete the firm’s appraisal process with supervisor.
- Supervise, train, assist and formally appraise staff for whom the post holder is directly responsible to ensure appropriate personal development and the provision of quality legal advice.
- Attend and contribute to team/practice area meetings and comply with directions/decisions made to ensure team objectives achieved.
- Keep up to date with changes in relevant law and practice and attend appropriate training events to ensure up to date legal knowledge and best practice.
- Participate in relevant practice development initiatives and events to promote and develop the firm’s practice.
- To comply with all SRA rules and regulations presently in force and as added to or amended from time to time.
- Carry out any other duties which may from time to time be required of the post holder by any partner or other senior member of the firm.
Our Candidate Requirements
Essential
- 0-4 PQE/Experience in relevant legal field
- Current Practising Certificate
- Legal Practise Course
- Any relevant professional memberships (panels; special interest groups)
- Drafting of legal documentation
- Case Preparation
- Able to work in a team and individually
Desirable
- Word processing/key-board skills
- Microsoft Office & associated applications
- Quality procedures

Further Information
As part of the Ascent on-boarding process all successful applicants are required to complete the group’s employment screening process. This process helps to ensure that all new employees meet our standards in relation to honesty and integrity therefore protecting the interests of the Group, existing employees, clients, partners and other stakeholders.
*Training will be conducted over a period of a few weeks in the Manchester office, following training the Hybrid working model will commence in which Ascent team members are expected to work from the Manchester office a minimum of 2 days per week.
